What is a GPO Analyst?

A GPO Analyst is a professional who manages and analyzes Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts, data, and relationships for a company, often in the healthcare or supply chain sectors. They help organizations maximize cost savings and value by evaluating supplier agreements, tracking compliance, and ensuring that the company benefits from negotiated discounts and terms. GPO Analysts also provide reporting, monitor performance, and support internal stakeholders in making data-driven purchasing decisions.

What are some common challenges faced by a GPO Analyst when managing multiple supplier contracts?

A GPO Analyst often encounters the challenge of balancing diverse contract requirements across multiple suppliers while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations. Coordinating timelines, maintaining accurate documentation, and tracking key performance indicators for each contract can be complex, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. Effective communication with stakeholders and strong organizational skills are essential to proactively address discrepancies, renewals, and negotiation points. Staying updated on market trends and regulatory changes also helps GPO Analysts provide valuable insights for contract optimization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GPO Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GPO Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, a solid understanding of group purchasing operations, and typically a degree in business, supply chain, or a related field. Familiarity with procurement software, data analysis tools like Excel or Tableau, and sometimes certification such as CPSM or Six Sigma is valuable. Outstanding communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills help you effectively collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders. These capabilities are vital for optimizing purchasing strategies, driving cost savings, and ensuring efficient supply chain processes.

We instill an environment where employees feel engaged, satisfied and able to contribute their unique skills and talents while living and working as their authentic selves. We provide extensive opportunities for personal and professional development, building both employee competence and organizational capability to fuel exceptional performance through an inclusive environment both now and in the future.
Excelerate is a provider-led, physician-engaged change management model jointly owned by Cleveland Clinic, OhioHealth, and Vizient. The team is dedicated to delivering best-in-class strategies and analytics that help members reduce clinical variation and unlock sustainable cost savings across the healthcare supply chain.
Summary:
In this role, you will play a critical role in supporting strategic sourcing, contract implementation, and value realization initiatives. You will analyze spend data to identify contract opportunities throughout the recruitment, sales, and implementation phases. You will present findings to internal and external stakeholders and offer data-driven recommendations that directly impact financial outcomes. You will work independently and collaboratively as part of a high-performing analytics team, engaging cross-functionally with Sourcing, Implementation, and Member Delivery teams to provide actionable insights that drive value across a growing member base.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct complex financial analysis related to pricing, rebates, administrative fees, and distribution to uncover savings opportunities and competitive advantages.
  • Serve as a key analytical resource to support provider-specific opportunity assessments and performance evaluations.
  • Interpret and synthesize statistical analyses based on product and market knowledge to support decision-making.
  • Leverage deep understanding of GPO analytics to assess the non-pharmacy portfolio, with a focus on medical-surgical and physician preference item (PPI) categories.
  • Maintain up-to-date contract knowledge across Excelerate, Vizient, and competitor portfolios to support meaningful, accurate financial assessments.
  • Collaborate with Sourcing and Implementation teams to support new member onboarding and existing portfolio optimization.
  • Communicate findings clearly and persuasively to both internal stakeholders and member organizations.

Qualifications
  • Relevant degree preferred.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience required. Experience in healthcare supply chain analytics, GPO contracting, or cost management preferred.
  • Broad and diverse knowledge of healthcare products, categories, and services.
  • Strong project management, technical acumen, business analysis, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational strength in both written and verbal communication.
  • Self-motivated, action-oriented, and capable of independent problem-solving.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with a strong service orientation.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI and MS Access required; experience with SQL query writing and VBA strongly preferred.
