Job description

Nasdaq is seeking a Director of Communications to lead strategic communications for our Digital Assets initiatives across the enterprise. This role will lead and drive the creation, development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies that position Nasdaq as a trusted thought leader in digital assets, blockchain technology, and the evolution of financial infrastructure.
As the senior communications leader for this transformative business area, you will craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse stakeholders including institutional investors, crypto-native audiences, policymakers, regulators, and the broader digital asset community. This role requires a unique blend of senior-level communications expertise, deep fluency in Web3, DeFi, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrency ecosystems, plus an established network within the digital asset community.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Messaging
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that advance Nasdaq's digital assets vision and business objectives
  • Craft clear, compelling messaging that bridges traditional finance and crypto-native audiences
  • Position Nasdaq executives and subject matter experts as authoritative voices in digital asset innovation
  • Create strategic narratives around key initiatives including trading, post-trade, collateral management, blockchain infrastructure, tokenization, and institutional crypto adoption
  • Lead the development of long-term communications roadmaps aligned with business strategy

Media Relations & Issues Management
  • Proactively pitch stories and secure high-impact coverage in both crypto-native and traditional business media
  • Manage media inquiries and develop reactive statements on market developments
  • Monitor digital asset news flow and social sentiment to identify opportunities and risks

Thought Leadership & Content Development
  • Drive thought leadership programs that establish Nasdaq as a trusted voice in the digital asset ecosystem
  • Develop executive bylines, speeches, presentations, and content for industry conferences and events
  • Collaborate with product, legal and marketing to translate complex technical concepts into accessible and compelling communications materials

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Leverage existing relationships and build new connections with key influencers in the digital asset community
  • Support government relations, product and legal teams to engage with policymakers, regulators, and industry associations on digital asset policy and regulatory developments
  • Cultivate relationships with crypto-focused and mainstream media to secure strategic coverage and positioning
  • Activate network to amplify Nasdaq's presence and credibility in the digital asset ecosystem

Required Qualifications
Experience & Background
  • 10+ years of communications experience, with a proven track record in progressively senior roles
  • Minimum 3-5 years focused on digital assets, blockchain, cryptocurrency, or Web3
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic communications programs that drive business results
  • Experience working in or with the crypto/blockchain industry (exchanges, protocols, infrastructure providers, DeFi platforms, Web3 companies, or related fintech)
  • Deep, established network within the digital asset community, including relationships with key influencers, media, founders, and industry leaders
  • Deep fluency in crypto and blockchain technology, including technical architecture, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, DeFi protocols, and tokenomics
  • Comprehensive understanding of the digital asset ecosystem, including major blockchain networks (Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, etc.), cross-chain infrastructure, and emerging protocols and solutions
  • Expert knowledge of the intersection between mainstream finance and decentralized finance
  • Strong understanding of digital asset regulatory landscape including securities laws, AML/KYC requirements, and evolving policy frameworks across jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with institutional crypto adoption trends, including custody solutions, digital asset trading infrastructure, tokenization, and digital asset market structure

Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities with extensive experience translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Strong media relations skills with established relationships in both crypto-focused and mainstream business media
  • Strategic thinker with ability to anticipate market trends, identify communications opportunities, and provide senior-level counsel
  • Excellent judgment and proven ability to navigate sensitive topics in a highly regulated, fast-moving environment
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with C-suite executives and cross-functional stakeholders

The base pay range for this role is $112,000 - $207,000. In addition to base salary, Nasdaq provides a generous annual bonus/commission (short-term incentive), and equity (long-term incentive), comprehensive benefits, and opportunity for growth. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, business needs and market demands.
