Overview
Azure Core is at the forefront of innovation for Microsoft's Cloud + AI mission. The One Fleet Platform team is responsible for designing and building foundational primitives, platforms, hardware, and services that power the current and next generation of applications, including Generative AI.
As aPrincipal Technical Program Manager Manager, you will lead a team of TPMs to drive the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of Azure's fleet lifecycle and cloud expansion efforts (AI Regions, Region Expansions, and New Clouds). You will partner across Engineering, Operations, and Compliance to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure platform capabilities that enable Azure's growth and customer trust.
This role provides the opportunity to deliver significant business impact at scale, accelerate Azure adoption, and influence the direction of Microsoft's cloud platform
Responsibilities
  • Build, grow, and retain a high-performing, inclusive team of Technical Program Managers. Provide coaching, set clear expectations, and model Microsoft's culture and leadership principles.
  • Provide strategic direction to cross-divisional teams partnering with Software and Hardware Engineering to design and deliver scalable technical solutions across Azure service and infrastructure expansion.
  • Drive cross-divisional alignment on success criteria, business impact (e.g., ROI, time-to-market), and roadmap execution, ensuring alignment across product and release plans.
  • Oversee end-to-end program execution, including roadmap delivery, dependency management, project schedules, and staging and implementation plans; ensure teams are held accountable to governance processes and standards.
  • Partner with Engineering, Data Science, and other stakeholders to define, track, and improve key performance metrics (e.g., reliability, efficiency, adoption), and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Ensure teams own the customer supportability experience, including monitoring product usage, conducting root-cause analysis for live-site incidents, and driving improvements in system reliability and operational excellence.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by validating use cases, forming hypotheses, running experiments, and iterating to improve system performance and business outcomes.
  • Champion scalable innovation, including the application of Generative AI and automation to improve engineering velocity, planning efficiency, and operational insights.
  • Build and maintain strong executive and cross-organizational partnerships; influence decisions, secure alignment, and drive "One Microsoft" outcomes across teams.
  • Act as a visible culture and leadership exemplar, driving accountability, inclusion, and high standards across teams and organizations.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications:
6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
5+ years people management experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
6+ years people management experience.
10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
