Job description

Overview

Amentum is seeking a Senior Unified Capabilities (UC) Engineer to join our team in Ft. Meade, MD. In this role you will support missionโ€‘critical projects that directly impact the Nationโ€™s security and intelligence mission, working with DISAโ€™s Intel and Cyber Division to deliver critical IT capabilities to the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute technical expertise and recommendations in UC and collaboration technologies, including largeโ€‘scale conferencing and session border controllers.
  • Lead a team of UC engineers in developing a secure, scalable, and resilient UC prototype tailored for DoD use on classified networks.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for all UC design and engineering activities.
  • Define architecture and interface specifications, ensuring compliance with DoD Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR), STIGs, and other cybersecurity mandates.
  • Integrate voice (VoIP), video conferencing, instant messaging, presence, and unified messaging solutions across IP networks.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, security engineers, and network teams to ensure seamless integration with existing classified infrastructures.
  • Develop and execute labโ€‘based testing, proofโ€‘ofโ€‘concept demonstrations, and field evaluations.
  • Prepare and present engineering documentation, risk assessments, and status reports to internal leadership and external government stakeholders.
  • Work closely with crossโ€‘functional teamsโ€”including network engineers, security specialists, and system architectsโ€”to design, implement, and optimize UC solutions.
  • Assess client needs, recommend architecture improvements, and ensure seamless communication across domains.
  • Specialize in UC technologies such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unified Computing Systems, Cisco Unified Border Element, and Cisco Meeting Server.
  • Design and manage VQ Conference Manager or other conference management tools.
  • Advise engineering and cybersecurity teams on voice and video communications technologies, operational paradigms, and potential interoperability issues.
  • Ensure communication tools are integrated seamlessly and meet security requirements.
  • Address challenges related to data flow, security policies, and interoperability.
Work Environment

Employee will work in a SCIF on a daily basis and may also work in a datacenter environment for specified periods of time.

Minimum Requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert in UC design, endpoints and user management, configuration, troubleshooting, and integration with other systems.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of IT engineering experience, with at least 10 years specific to UC.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, architecting, and deploying secure UC solutions in classified or DoD environments.
  • Experience with voice gateways, SIP session border controllers, SIP trunks, and ISDN circuits.
  • Understanding of Cisco IOS/IOX commandโ€‘line router and switch configuration related to UC.
  • Strong knowledge of protocols and technologies such as SIP, RTP, SRTP, VoIP, H.323, XMPP, TLS, and PKI.
  • Experience designing and implementing general callโ€‘plan concepts.
  • Deep familiarity with UC platforms such as CUCM, CUBE, and Cisco Meeting Server.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in briefing technical concepts to senior leadership and DoD stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Travel up to 20%.
  • Active Topโ€‘Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
Required Certifications
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) โ€“ Collaboration certification
  • DoD 8570.01โ€‘M IATโ€‘II baseline certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing VQ Conference Manager.
  • Experience implementing solutions aligned with the DoD Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (APL).
  • Familiarity with classified cloud environments (e.g., AWS Secret Region, Azure Government Secret).
  • Experience working on DoD prototype or rapid acquisition programs.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, Infrastructureโ€‘asโ€‘Code (IaC), or CI/CD pipelines supporting UC deployment automation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance frameworks including NIST SP 800โ€‘53, RMF, and DISA STIGs, and compliance software like ACAS (Tenable).
  • Experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls related to troubleshooting voice and video integration issues.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to nonโ€‘technical stakeholders.
  • Experience developing complex design documentation, IT checklists, SOPs, guides, etc.
  • Optional: Experience with Oracle SBC, Cisco Event Manager scripting, Cisco TCL scripting, Cisco Jabber, and Cisco IVR application configuration (not a requirement).
