Enterprise Tableau Account Director, State and Local Gov

Our Enterprise Business team focuses on working with existing and growing local government organizations in the northeastern half of the US.

Tableau is the market‑leading choice for modern analytics. All our work is driven by our mission to help people see and understand data. The platform is designed to put the user first—whether they are an analyst, data scientist, student, teacher, executive, or business user.

Day to Day

Our Prime Named Enterprise Account Executives engage with existing customers and new leads to sell the entire Tableau platform. They build positive, trusted relationships with key team members and C‑suite decision makers within their accounts and help customers realize value from their data investments. You will drive analytics discussions, identify use cases, and develop opportunities through warm leads and whitespace prospecting.

  • Develop key customer stakeholder relationships and drive customer satisfaction at assigned accounts.
  • Assist with the development and execution of the overall long‑term strategy for the account, aligned to customer business objectives.
  • Coordinate internal resources—including product support, customer success, and sales engineering—to meet customer business needs.
  • Assist with account planning, coordinating with other sales resources (Salesforce Core AE’s, Prime AE’s, Cloud AE’s, etc.) to ensure strategic alignment.
  • Manage complex sales cycles and present to C‑level executives the value proposition of the Tableau platform.
  • Define and complete territory/account sales plans for the assigned territory and then meet and exceed sales goals (quotas) through prospecting, qualifying, managing, and closing sales opportunities.
  • Develop and manage the sales pipeline, prospect and assess sales, and move a large number of transactions simultaneously through the pipeline.
Required Experience
  • 7+ years of quota‑carrying software or technology sales and account management experience; ideally focused on large enterprise K‑12 accounts.
  • Work well within a team of various partners in a matrixed environment (Account Executives, Solution Engineers, Sales Leaders, Executives, etc.).
  • Highly self‑driven with a sense of urgency and a belief in Tableau’s mission.
  • Must possess business curiosity combined with technical ability to address customer data challenges and earn trust.
  • Solution‑selling mentality: develop a plan and solution, articulate value, and navigate customer complexities to drive revenue.
Education

Degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Experience will be evaluated based on core competencies for the role (e.g., extracurricular leadership, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience, etc.).

  • Experience selling in the software industry or technical sales (e.g., SaaS).
  • Experience with analytics, data, databases, predictive modeling, or business intelligence.

Salary Range

The typical base salary range for this position is $155,700 – $208,300 annually.

In California, New York, and select cities in Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and Washington DC, the base pay range is the same. The range represents base salary only and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity, or benefits, as applicable.
