Description
Summary
Supports the Press Systems area by applying advanced knowledge of the press functions, coaching and training the cell/team to operate equipment effectively with minimal downtime and optimal quality. Press System functions include platemaking, main press, signature creation and delivery to buffer. Provides manufacturing floor direction for a cell (team), and is accountable for job skills training for the cell.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Accountable for operation of a press cell/team that produces signatures from plate making through signature delivery to the print roll buffer.
2. Sets high standards for the cell/team with regard to cycle time, quality, continuous process improvement (CPI), work ethic, safety and housekeeping, cross training and teamwork in the daily operation of the cell.
3. Participates and encourages others in the diagnostics and repair of machinery issues to minimize downtime and waste.
4. Works closely with maintenance and staff to maximize value of preventative maintenance activities by reducing unexpected downtime.
5. Develops cell/team staff members by demonstrating behavior that sets the example within the cell/team regarding continuous process improvement, safety, and housekeeping, etc.
6. Encourages collaboration within the group that creates ownership and pride in the delivery of error free first pass quality and minimal re-work/waste.
7. Coaches employee performance on a regular basis to encourage self-development and career planning that benefits both the individual and the business. Elevates all performance issues to the Process Lead.
8. Provides verbal and written communication to the appropriate personnel with regard to equipment, process, maintenance, quality, staff or other operational issues within the cell that may impact delivery of signatures and therefore overall press area production.
9. Participates in training in conjunction with the VMC "Progression" program to improve knowledge and skill related to the Process technician position. Follows a planned program of continuous learning to complete all mandatory skill blocks. Maintains current skills required for the position, and may pursue additional learning through optional and/or limited skill blocks. Coordinates the training and Progression certification in their production cell.
10. Accomplishes duties using safe work practices and equipment while being responsible for reporting all injuries and observed unsafe conditions. Coaches fellow employees on safe work practices as appropriate and contributes to the overall success of the company's safety program.
11. Performs related work and additional duties as needed or required.
12. Assist with development of WI's and JA's
13. Focus on CPI to reduce waste in all areas.

Education/Experience
Requires five years related experience (may include vocational training/certification, training others in related field of printing.) Five years of heatset printing application preferred. Must have Goss Sunday experience. Requires folding experience.
