POSITION:            Teacher of Adults - Math Instructor
                              (Reported Time, Non-Benefitted Position)
LOCATION:           James H. Groves High School/Glasgow High School
QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Hold a valid State of Delaware certification in secondary Mathematics (middle school or high school).
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience teaching K-12 students and/or adult learners.
  • Demonstrated competency in mathematics instruction and classroom teaching.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach adult learners with varying instructional levels and educational backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in the use of educational technology and digital learning tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, and other technology applications used to support instruction and student learning.
  • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours and in school and/or community-based settings as assigned.

Salary:  $35.00/hr.

Position Description: The Math Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality mathematics instruction to adult learners enrolled in the James H. Groves Adult High School program. The teacher will plan and deliver instruction using the approved curriculum of the State of Delaware's Adult High School program and will provide instruction designed to support students in meeting the academic requirements necessary for high school completion.

  • Plan and deliver mathematics instruction aligned with the approved State of Delaware Adult High School curriculum and program expectations.
  • Provide instruction that supports adult learners in developing the mathematical knowledge and skills necessary for successful completion of the Adult High School program.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varied academic, instructional, and learning needs of adult students.
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and approaches.
  • Deliver instruction in hybrid and/or virtual learning environments when appropriate.
  • Assess student learning on an ongoing basis and use assessment results to adjust instruction and address individual student needs.
  • Monitor student progress toward completion of course and program requirements and provide appropriate academic support.
  • Integrate appropriate technology and digital resources into classroom instruction and student learning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, attendance information, grades, progress documentation, and other required program records.
  • Communicate regularly with students regarding academic progress, attendance, expectations, and completion of program requirements.
  • Contact students regarding excessive absences and work to identify barriers to attendance and continued participation.
  • Refer adult learners experiencing academic, personal, employment, or other barriers to appropriate program or community resources.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, training, and other activities sponsored by the Adult Education program, Christina School District, and/or the State of Delaware.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mathematics instruction, adult education practices, curriculum requirements, and instructional technology.
