Senior Product Designer

Job description

About Patlytics:
Patlytics is the fastest-growing AI-native patent intelligence platform, transforming how IP is protected and monetized at scale. Our advanced LLMs and generative AI engine, custom-built for intellectual property, power every phase of the patent workflow from invention disclosure through litigation, delivering citation-backed insights with unprecedented accuracy and speed.
Backed by $65 million in total funding from investors including SignalFire, Google's Gradient fund, 8VC, N47, Myriad Venture Partners, Relativity, Alumni Ventures, Antiportfolio Ventures, and BAM Corner Point, Patlytics is trusted by 40% of the AmLaw 100, including Quinn Emanuel, Latham & Watkins, Foley & Lardner, and Susman Godfrey, as well as leading corporate IP teams at Rivian, Google, Panasonic, Sanofi, and Canon. Customers are seeing up to 90% reduction in project time, with claim charts that used to cost $30K+ in attorney time now completed at a fraction of that cost.
With teams across the globe we're building a global company fueled by exceptional talent and bold ideas. Our rapid expansion is driven by people who bring entrepreneurial energy, intellectual curiosity, and a shared commitment to setting the global standard for AI-powered IP intelligence. We're creating a culture where diverse perspectives shape breakthrough innovation and every voice contributes to transforming how the world protects ideas.
The Role:
Patent attorneys are among the most analytically demanding users you'll ever design for. Their workflows are high-stakes, deeply nuanced, and largely unchanged for decades, until now. The Senior Product Designer is the person who makes AI feel intuitive, trustworthy, and indispensable in their hands.
You won't be pushing pixels in isolation. You'll be deeply embedded with the customers who use Patlytics every day: patent litigators building claim charts under deadline pressure, prosecution teams managing sprawling portfolios, IP strategists making million-dollar decisions on prior art. Your job is to understand how they think, where they struggle, and what "better" actually looks like in their world, then design the experiences that get them there.
This is a role for a designer who is obsessed with how people actually use products, not just how they look. You'll spend real time with attorneys at AmLaw 100 firms and Fortune 500 IP departments, watching them work, pressure-testing your designs in context, and iterating until the experience earns their trust. You'll shape how some of the world's most sophisticated professionals interact with cutting-edge AI, making complex retrieval, reasoning, and analysis feel effortless.
The ideal candidate has always been drawn to the messy, human side of design: the research sessions that upend your assumptions, the deployment where you realize the workflow breaks in a way you didn't anticipate, the moment a skeptical user says "this actually works." Now they want to do that full-time, at the frontier of AI, in one of law's most consequential domains.
You Will:
  • Design end-to-end experiences across Patlytics' core workflows, including patent search, claim charting, portfolio analysis, prosecution, and litigation support, ensuring every interaction helps users leverage AI with confidence and clarity
  • Be the voice of the customer in every design decision. Conduct user research directly with patent attorneys, IP counsel, and legal operations teams. Sit in on deployments. Watch real usage. Let what you learn reshape what you build
  • Make AI legible. Design interfaces that surface AI-generated insights (prior art results, claim mappings, portfolio analytics) in ways that are transparent, verifiable, and actionable. Help users understand what the AI did, why, and how to act on it
  • Stay at the forefront of AI interaction design, keeping up with the latest in LLM-powered interfaces, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and emerging patterns for human-AI collaboration, then bring those ideas into the product
  • Drive design through the full lifecycle, from early discovery and concept exploration through high-fidelity prototyping, usability testing, and post-launch iteration. Own the quality of the shipped experience, not just the mockup
  • Create scalable design systems and patterns that bring consistency across a rapidly expanding product surface while remaining flexible enough for the specialized needs of different IP workflows

You Have:
  • 6+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex, workflow-heavy products, ideally in B2B SaaS, legal tech, professional services, or enterprise tools for expert users
  • Proven ability to design for AI-powered products. You understand the unique UX challenges of LLM-based systems (handling uncertainty, surfacing confidence, designing for variable outputs, managing user trust) and you've shipped solutions that address them
  • Precise communication that adjusts for audience, whether you're walking an attorney through a prototype, aligning with a PM on scope, or presenting a design rationale to leadership
  • Extreme ownership. You drive projects to completion without waiting for direction, close feedback loops proactively, and hold yourself accountable for the experience customers actually have, not just the one you designed on paper
Bonus:
  • Direct experience with Vertical AI / LLM products or agent-based systems
  • Experience in a startup or early-stage environment where you built process from scratch
  • Familiarity with the patent lifecycle: prosecution, litigation, portfolio management, search and analytics

Why Patlytics:
  • The opportunity to work at the intersection of AI and law, shaping how the world's most important IP decisions get made
  • Opportunity to join a rocket ship in the earliest stages of global scale-up
  • Global exposure: deal with the world's top law firms, tech giants, and innovation-driven corporations
  • No bureaucracy. No ceiling. Just impact, ownership, and velocity.

We offer:
  • Comprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, vision, plus FSA, commuter benefits, and health advocacy through Rightway
  • Mental health and wellness support: Access to Spring Health and Headspace, plus "Mental Escape Days" to recharge when you need it
  • Immediate 401(k) enrollment with no waiting period to start saving for your future
  • Generous time off: Unlimited PTO, 12 paid company holidays, plus a full week off during our Holiday Break
  • Family-first policies: Paid parental leave to support you during life's biggest moments
  • Invest in yourself: Professional development budget, gym membership stipend, and learning opportunities
  • Celebrate what matters: Birthday and work anniversary recognition, plus generous employee referral bonuses
  • Hybrid work environment (New York City), while staying connected with a passionate and talented team
