Description
Harbor City International School is a public charter school serving grades 7-12 in Duluth, MN. The purpose of this position is to inspire lifelong health and fitness as well as meet MN state graduation standards. Classes are held both on the school campus as well as at the Downtown YMCA in Duluth.
The ideal candidate:
• Has experience and knowledge in leading a variety of team and individual fitness activities and health topics, including non-traditional school activities such as hiking, yoga, or other accessible activities.
• Is inclusive and encouraging to students of all identities, backgrounds, and fitness levels
• Works well in flexible learning environment and can maintain a structured classroom environment
• Creates health and fitness activities to inform and inspire students to engage in healthy life habits
• Is reliable in planning and attendance
Responsibilities include:
• Content development and delivery using both direct instruction and student self-guided experiences in physical education and fitness.
• Content development and delivery for inclusive, age appropriate fitness and health instruction for 7th-8th grade and 9-12th grade students, includes 1 section each 7/8th grade and of 9-12th grade health and fitness courses.
• Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities
• Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations
• Provide assessment and feedback to promote skills, understanding, and growth
• Communicate with school administration and YMCA liaison and community partners.
• Use Google Suites including Google Classroom, and Powerschool management system
• Communicate with students, families, and colleagues effectively
• Co-teach 2 Symposium courses (one week intensive classes focused on a specific activity or topic)
• Additional opportunities: Intramural club advisement
Benefits
Salary:
• $12,750 ($42,500 base salary prorated)
• Schedule: 2.25 h/day, M-F following school calendar, paid summer onboarding required
• This position is not eligible for benefits

• BA in Physical Education or equivalent
• Valid MN teaching license in Physical Education
