Job description

Job Title: Linux Platform Operations Engineer
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Duration: 6 Months Contract

Position Overview: We are seeking a Linux and OpenShift Platform Operations Engineer with experience supporting and managing enterprise Linux and OpenShift environments. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining system stability, automating operational tasks, and ensuring high availability for mission critical workloads.
 
This position requires in depth technical expertise, strong teamwork, and a proactive approach to problem solving and operational excellence. The engineer will use modern AI driven automation tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar solutions to improve efficiency and streamline engineering workflows.
 
This role will support public and private cloud Infrastructure as a Service environments. The team is focused on improving infrastructure availability and reliability through repeatable patterns, modern architecture, stronger observability, and automation that helps prevent outages and increase value across the organization. The role will partner with global operations subject matter experts and platform infrastructure operations teams to deliver daily operations for this area.Responsibilities:• Support and manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server environments.
 
• Administer OpenShift, Kubernetes, and containerized platform environments.
• Manage Linux based virtual machines, VMware vSphere environments, and physical server infrastructure across HP, Dell, and IBM platforms.
• Configure and maintain Linux network services, including Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Virtual Local Area Networks, firewalls, and Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol services.
• Develop and manage Ansible playbooks for system configuration, deployment, and operational automation.
• Write Bash and Python scripts to support system management, automation, and operational efficiency.
• Use Ansible Tower or AWX for centralized automation management.
• Apply AI enabled automation tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar solutions to improve scripting efficiency, accelerate development, and streamline operational workflows.
• Follow Information Technology Infrastructure Library based incident, problem, and change management processes using ServiceNow.
• Perform incident resolution and root cause analysis for critical server issues.
• Support change management processes while helping minimize production impact.
• Deliver technical leadership for enterprise infrastructure solutions and support deployment across multiple global locations.
• Strengthen infrastructure availability, resiliency, and observability at enterprise scale.
• Contribute to AI operations, event driven automation, infrastructure automation, and cloud Infrastructure as Code initiatives.
 
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• Five or more years of experience as a Linux Operating System or Platform Engineer.
• Experience with cloud Infrastructure as a Service platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including architecture, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
• Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and containerized solutions.
• Experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure operations in enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated experience with or exposure to AI enabled automation tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar solutions, with the ability to apply these tools in engineering or operational contexts.
• Experience leading or supporting large scale global infrastructure projects.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and hands on Linux system administration experience.
• Consistent record of high quality, agile focused, team based solution delivery.

Additional Information:

• Shift rotation may include Monday through Friday or Thursday through Monday.
• Less than five percent travel is expected.
• Experience in a regulated or healthcare environment is preferred.
