About the MBA Media Fellowship
This MBA Fellowship offers an experience you won't find anywhere else. Created in partnership by The New York Times, POLITICO, The Atlantic, and The Guardian, the program gives fellows a front-row seat into how four of the world's leading news organizations think, operate, and innovate.
Over the summer, fellows work on meaningful strategic projects while participating in shared workshops, leadership conversations, and cross-company programming. The experience offers exceptional access to senior leaders, exposure to different approaches across the media industry, and a powerful network of peers - all designed to help shape the next generation of media and business leaders.
Project Overview
POLITICO is seeking an Business Analyst, MBA Fellow to examine and articulate the value of digital newsletters as a core journalistic product and primary touchpoint for audiences. This project focuses on understanding why newsletters matter and how they reinforce POLITICO's role as a trusted, must read source of journalism, how they shape reader behavior and loyalty, and how they compare to similar products across the industry.
The Fellow will explore newsletters not just as a distribution channel, but as a defining product that delivers context, expertise, and habit forming engagement in a digital news environment.
What You'll Do:
The Fellow's assignment will center on analysis, synthesis, and insight generation, including:
  • Identify how newsletters fit into POLITICO's broader journalism and product ecosystem

  • Analyze how newsletters support trust, authority, and habit formation compared to other digital formats

  • Conduct competitive analysis of peer publishers' newsletter offerings (format, voice, cadence, audience role)

  • Evaluate how emerging tools (including AIassisted workflows or insights) could responsibly support newsletter production, personalization, or audience understanding without replacing editorial judgment

  • Distill findings into a clear narrative about the role and value of newsletters in modern journalism

What You'll Need:
  • Currently pursuing MBA degree with a strong interest in strategy, analytics, media, or digital business models

  • Experience with or exposure to data analysis, research, or business intelligence tools. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into insights

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment balancing critical thinking with hands-on execution
