Job description

Assistant Director, Business Intelligence
The Assistant Director, Business Intelligence leads best-in-class business intelligence program that empowers strategic decision-making and operational excellence across ASU Enterprise Partners and its affiliates. This role is responsible for translating business specifications into actionable, user-friendly tools and dashboards across platforms such as Power BI and Looker, while actively contributing as a hands-on BI developer alongside the team. The Assistant Director applies modern analytics practices to deliver solutions that are both visually compelling and aligned with stakeholder needs. With a strong focus on usability, they oversee the creation of clear documentation and training resources, while ensuring data integrity, governance, and accessibility in close collaboration with internal partners and leadership. This position also leads a team of reporting analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What you'll do
  • Develop and execute a forward-looking business intelligence strategy that aligns with organizational goals and drives data-informed decision-making in partnership with Executive Director, Applied Data Science & Analytics
  • Translate business needs into actionable intelligence by developing and delivering intuitive, user-friendly dashboards and tools across platforms such as Power BI, and Looker
  • Ensure dashboards and reporting tools are visually compelling, easy to navigate, and tailored to the needs of diverse business users
  • Lead and mentor a team of reporting analysts and developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Evaluate and implement modern BI platforms and tools, ensuring scalability, usability, and alignment with stakeholder needs
  • Infuse best-in-class analytics practices into the development of KPIs, descriptive and diagnostic analyses, and scenario planning models; propose and pioneer the use of AI within business intelligence artifacts to accelerate value realized from data.
  • Drive automation and process optimization to enhance efficiency and reduce manual reporting burdens
  • Ensure data integrity and governance across multiple systems, including CRM, ERP, finance, and marketing platforms
  • Enforce data quality, compliance, and security standards, including adherence to GDPR, CCPA, and FERPA
  • Support the development of a customer data platform (CDP) for self-service utilization of data for varied purposes including outreach and research.
  • Leverage external data and benchmarking to enhance competitive and strategic insights
  • Monitor and communicate the impact of BI initiatives, using performance metrics to demonstrate value and guide continuous improvement
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring timely execution of high-impact analytics initiatives

Relevant qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise with BI platforms such as Power BI and Looker
  • Strong understanding of report and dashboard user UI/IX design and principles
  • Expert-level understanding of running optimized SQL
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into intuitive, scalable BI solutions
  • Experience with cloud-based analytics environments
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of cross-functional collaboration
  • Expert-level communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey data-driven findings and actionable recommendations to non-technical audiences and executives
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver high-impact initiatives on time
  • Experience documenting processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) using tools like Confluence
  • Desire and ability to foster a culture of collaboration and innovation in data utilization across all levels of the organization
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize, motivate, and lead a team to achieve desired results
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and partners

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, business analytics, information systems, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related discipline

Preferred education and experience
  • Masters's degree in statistics, data analytics, mathematics, or in a relevant field
  • 5+ years working in advanced business intelligence applications, such as PowerBI, Looker, Google BigQuery and Microsoft Fabric
  • 1+ years of experience leading high-performing analytics or reporting teams
  • 1+ years of experience applying data governance practices and principles within a BI program

Preferred skills and abilities
  • Expert-level understanding of running optimized SQL
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Experience working within the Microsoft and Google Cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, FERPA, HIPAA)
  • Experience supporting BI adoption and user training
  • Background in nonprofit, higher education, or mission-driven organizations
