The Opportunity
Buckstop is seeking a highly analytical and entrepreneurial Financial Analyst to join our founding team. This is not a traditional finance role.
We're looking for someone who enjoys building systems, creating processes from scratch, and partnering directly with leadership to help shape the financial infrastructure of a rapidly growing company. Experience in the energy sector is preferred.
You will support financial planning, accounting operations, tax compliance, customer project analysis, automation initiatives, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strong financial fundamentals with a startup mindset and thrives in environments where ambiguity is an opportunity rather than a challenge.
This role reports directly to the founders and will play a critical role in helping Buckstop scale responsibly.
What You'll Do
Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyze customer projects, profitability, pricing, and operational performance
  • Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, budgets, and operating plans
  • Design and implement scalable financial workflows and processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting and accounting activities
  • Develop KPI dashboards and recurring reporting for leadership
  • Support fundraising, investor reporting, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support business decisions

Accounting & Tax Operations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial controls
  • Research and apply relevant tax codes and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors
  • Ensure financial data accuracy and integrity across systems

Energy Valuation Work
  • Directly contribute to valuation and analysis of customers energy assets
  • Build insurance and project finance models for energy projects
  • Calculating raw material and critical mineral contents
  • Conducting sensitivity analysis for commodity pricing
  • Build models and reports for valuation purposes

Founding Team Contributions
  • Operate with an ownership mentality and willingness to tackle challenges outside your job description
  • Contribute to company strategy, process design, and operational excellence
  • Help establish the culture, standards, and best practices of a high-growth startup
  • Work cross-functionally with leadership, customers, and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, corporate finance, or related functions
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, and financial processes
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification (or active pursuit of CPA)
  • ASA or MAI appraisal designations, or USPAP-compliant experience
  • Experience at an early-stage startup or venture-backed company
  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor relations, or strategic finance initiatives
  • Familiarity with automation tools, financial systems, and business intelligence platforms
  • Experience creating scalable finance and accounting processes from the ground up
