What is a golf tech?

A Golf Tech, or Golf Technician, is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and customizing golf equipment, such as clubs and fittings. They assist customers with club fittings, ensuring the right specifications for their swing and playing style. Golf Techs often work in golf retail stores, pro shops, or sporting goods stores, providing expert advice on equipment and technology. Their role may also include handling repairs, re-gripping clubs, and adjusting loft and lie angles for optimal performance.

What does a golf tech do?

Golf Techs commonly spend their days assisting customers with club fittings, performing repairs or adjustments to golf equipment, and maintaining inventory of golf supplies. They use specialized equipment such as launch monitors and club repair tools to ensure golfers receive tailored solutions for their game. Collaboration with golf professionals, pro shop staff, and customers is frequent, as Golf Techs help create a positive and knowledgeable retail or club environment. This hands-on, customer-focused work structure provides variety and the opportunity to develop deep expertise in golf equipment and technology.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a golf tech?

To thrive as a Golf Tech, you need strong knowledge of golf equipment, mechanical aptitude, and an understanding of equipment fitting or club repair, often supported by experience working in a pro shop or golf retail environment. Familiarity with launch monitor systems, club repair tools (such as shaft pullers or loft/lie machines), and manufacturer fitting software is essential. Excellent communication, customer service skills, and attention to detail help you support golfers and work well with teammates. These skills ensure golfers receive accurate equipment recommendations and repairs, driving customer satisfaction and loyalty.
