Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Mechanic, youโ€™ll provide support to the Golf Course Maintenance department. This position is responsible for aiding the Golf Course Superintendent with the maintenance and upkeep of golf carts, other vehicles and mechanical equipment at the golf course.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects of maintenance equipment.
  • Perform general overhaul of motors
  • Repair transmission, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure pumps and valves
  • Install and adjust brakes; install batteries, tires, wiring
  • Diagnose mechanical trouble and schedule appropriate preventive maintenance work
  • Perform preventive maintenance work including but not limited to oils and filters replacement and greasing of equipment
  • Machine and weld equipment
  • Grind and sharpen mower blades, reels and bed knives
  • Instruct equipment operators in a safe and efficient operation
  • Care of mowing and other equipment
  • Repair other departmental buildings and equipment as needed
  • Perform Golf Course maintenance tasks as necessary

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONSย 

In addition, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the requirements of The Ranch:

Participate as team player with all departments.

Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Education and Licensing:

High school or equivalent education required. Valid, up to date California Driverโ€™s License is required.

Skills and Experience:

Past golf course maintenance experience preferred. Minimum two (2) years general mechanic experience,ย Ideal candidate will be at least 21 years old and have reliable transportation. Attendance and punctuality will be a critical to success in this role.

Grooming:

All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Ranch standards.

Competencies:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Demonstrate mechanical skill using a wide variety of equipment repair tools

Must be highly motivated and willing to work as a team

Ability to follow oral and written directions

Ability to understand and follow safety guidelines and company safety policies

Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace

Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process. Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently

Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision

Knowledge of The Ranch operations, its services, and facilities

Automotive apparatus and repair:

  • Light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment
  • Internal combustion engines, electronics and hydraulics
  • Golf course mowers and equipment
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed outdoors, there is no protection for inclement weather, such as, heat, rain, fog, cold, etc.
  • Walking and standing are required for most of the working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of The Ranch on a timely basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual activity
  • Talking and hearing occur occasionally in the process of communicating with guests and supervisors
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception

Other:

Regular attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the fluctuation in business levels in the hospitality industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of The Ranch. In addition, attendance is required at all scheduled training sessions and meetings.
