Job description

Position Overview:
The Head Golf Professional is responsible for leading the overall golf operation and delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests. This position oversees daily golf operations, outside services, golf shop operations, staff performance, tee-time management, tournaments, merchandising, and golf-related technology and point-of-sale activities.
The Head Golf Professional serves as a visible leader within the Club and works closely with Club leadership, the Golf Course Superintendent, and other departments to ensure golf operations consistently reflect the Club's standards for service, professionalism, organization, and member experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all day-to-day golf operations, including the golf shop, outside services, practice facilities, tee-time flow, and overall player experience
  • Ensure golf operations are organized, professional, and prepared to meet daily member, guest, tournament, and special-event needs
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and develop golf operations staff
  • Establish clear performance and service expectations and hold associates accountable to Club standards
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development to create a knowledgeable, engaged, and service-focused golf team
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout golf operations and proactively address member and guest needs
  • Deliver a consistently high-end experience for members and guests from arrival through completion of play
  • Respond professionally and promptly to member and guest questions, requests, concerns, and feedback
  • Manage daily tee-time operations to maximize organization, pace of play, course utilization, and member satisfaction
  • Coordinate with outside services to ensure carts, bag services, practice areas, and player staging are appropriately maintained and prepared
  • Oversee golf shop operations, including merchandising, product presentation, inventory management, sales, organization, and customer service
  • Maintain appropriate merchandise levels and ensure the golf shop presents a professional, organized, and inviting appearance
  • Monitor inventory, sales activity, purchasing, receiving, and product movement
  • Assist in identifying merchandise trends and opportunities to enhance golf shop performance
  • Plan, organize, and execute member tournaments, outings, leagues, and special golf events
  • Utilize Golf Genius to manage tournament registration, pairings, formats, scoring, results, communications, and other event-related activities
  • Coordinate tournament logistics with golf course maintenance, food and beverage, outside services, and other Club departments
  • Ensure tournament and event details are communicated clearly to members, guests, staff, and Club leadership
  • Utilize NorthStar POS accurately and consistently for member and guest billing, golf shop transactions, golf activities, and applicable account charges
  • Ensure staff are properly trained on NorthStar POS procedures and maintain accuracy and accountability when processing transactions
  • Monitor operational expenses, staffing, inventory, and resources to support established financial objectives
  • Partner with Club leadership on golf programming, member engagement, operational improvements, and long-term golf initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Golf Course Superintendent regarding course conditions, tournament preparation, course closures, maintenance schedules, and member communication
  • Maintain knowledge of golf industry trends, equipment, apparel, technology, tournament operations, and member service best practices
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

Experience:
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Golf Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Preferred: Five (5) or more years of progressive golf operations experience, including experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
  • Previous private club, country club, or high-end golf facility experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing golf operations, golf shop merchandising, tournaments, and member/guest services
  • Experience recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and managing golf operations staff
  • Proficiency with Golf Genius tournament management software
  • Proficiency with NorthStar POS or comparable club point-of-sale/member management technology
  • Strong knowledge of the game of golf, golf etiquette, tournament formats, pace-of-play standards, and golf operations
  • Preferred: Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with members, guests, associates, and leadership
