Job description

Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club is seeking an experienced, organized, and motivated Lead Equipment Technician to oversee the maintenance, repair, and preventative care of the golf course maintenance fleet. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a well-supported maintenance operation where equipment reliability is recognized as a critical component of delivering exceptional playing conditions.
The Lead Equipment Technician will be responsible for maintaining a predominantly John Deere fleet, while working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to ensure all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and at peak performance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to modernize preventative maintenance systems, lead equipment management initiatives, and contribute to a culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Club Highlights:
  • Operations Budget: $1.47 Million
  • Annual Rounds: Approximately 65,000
  • Maintenance Staff: 20-22 Full-Time Employees, 1-2 Part-Time Employees
  • Typical Schedule:
    • Week 1: Monday-Friday, 4:30 AM-1:00 PM+ (weekends off)
    • Week 2: Monday-Wednesday & Friday, 4:30 AM-1:00 PM; Thursday off; Saturday & Sunday, 4:30 AM-8:30 AM

Initial Priorities:
During the first several weeks, the Lead Equipment Technician will focus on:
  • Learning the operation and maintenance team
  • Becoming familiar with the golf course and facilities
  • Inspecting every piece of equipment to establish a complete fleet assessment
  • Developing a prioritized repair and preventative maintenance schedule
  • Learning and optimizing the TaskTracker maintenance system
  • Building relationships with equipment vendors
  • Identifying opportunities to improve shop organization and efficiency
  • Developing equipment condition reports for the Superintendent

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills & Aptitude:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and setup of all golf course equipment, utility vehicles, small engines, and licensed vehicles.
  • Maintain equipment to maximize reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, diesel, gasoline, and electronic issues.
  • Operate welding, grinding, sharpening, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate repair histories, preventative maintenance schedules, inventory records, and maintenance logs using TaskTracker and other software systems.
  • Manage parts inventory and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Source replacement parts while controlling costs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized equipment facility.
  • Assist maintenance staff with equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with golf course maintenance duties as needed.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support equipment replacement planning through detailed maintenance records.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4-7 years of equipment technician experience preferred (1-3 years considered for exceptional candidates)
  • High School Diploma, Technical Certificate, or Associate Degree preferred
  • Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Diesel and gasoline engines
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Welding and fabrication
    • Reel and rotary grinding
    • Preventative maintenance programs
    • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with the management team
