Massage Therapist

Department: Spa
Reports To: Spa Director / Spa Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $16.90 per hour Commission: 35% commission on massage services performed Gratuities: Eligible to receive 100% of client gratuities

Position Summary

Lahontan Golf Club is seeking a professional, courteous, and service-oriented Massage Therapist to provide exceptional therapeutic massage services in a luxury private club environment. The Massage Therapist is responsible for delivering personalized treatments that promote relaxation, relieve pain, reduce stress, support injury recovery, and enhance overall wellness while creating an outstanding member and guest experience.

The ideal candidate is passionate about health and wellness, maintains the highest standards of professionalism, and is committed to providing exceptional hospitality consistent with Lahontan Golf Club's service culture.

 Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClient Consultation
  • Welcome members and guests in a warm, professional manner.

  • Conduct confidential health history reviews and wellness consultations before each treatment.

  • Assess client needs, contraindications, and preferences to determine the most appropriate massage techniques.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on each client's goals and physical condition.

Massage Therapy Services
  • Perform professional massage therapy sessions ranging from 30 to 90 minutes.

  • Provide a variety of massage modalities, including but not limited to:

    • Swedish Massage

    • Deep Tissue Massage

    • Prenatal Massage

    • Sports Massage

    • Trigger Point Therapy

    • Hot Stone Massage (if certified)

    • Other approved therapeutic techniques

  • Communicate with clients throughout treatments to ensure comfort and appropriate pressure.

Assessment & Documentation
  • Evaluate soft tissue condition, muscle tension, and joint mobility.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential treatment notes and client records.

  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment recommendations as appropriate.

Client Education
  • Educate clients on post-treatment care and wellness practices.

  • Recommend stretching, posture improvement, hydration, recovery techniques, and self-care practices to support long-term wellness.

  • Promote additional spa services and wellness offerings when appropriate.

Spa Operations
  • Prepare treatment rooms before each appointment.

  • Clean, sanitize, disinfect, and restock treatment rooms and equipment following California health regulations and Lahontan Golf Club standards.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.

  • Properly handle linens, supplies, oils, and equipment.

  • Report equipment maintenance needs or safety concerns promptly.

Member & Guest Experience
  • Deliver exceptional customer service that exceeds member and guest expectations.

  • Protect client privacy and confidentiality at all times.

  • Foster a relaxing, welcoming, and professional atmosphere.

  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to scheduled appointments.

  • Support spa promotions, special events, and seasonal programming as requested.

QualificationsRequired
  • Current California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) Certification in good standing.

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and therapeutic massage techniques.

  • Understanding of contraindications and safe massage practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Preferred
  • Previous experience in a luxury spa, resort, private club, or hospitality environment.

  • Experience with multiple massage modalities.

  • Retail sales or spa product recommendation experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder movements throughout the workday.

  • Ability to apply sustained pressure during massage treatments.

  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal schedules as business needs require.

Work Environment

The Massage Therapist works in a quiet, climate-controlled spa environment and is expected to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and member service. This position requires flexibility in scheduling based on club operations, member appointments, and seasonal demand.
