What is a Go programmer?

A Go Programmer is a software developer who specializes in writing applications using the Go (Golang) programming language. They design, develop, test, and maintain scalable and high-performance software, often for backend systems, cloud services, and microservices architectures. Go Programmers work with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and databases to build efficient and concurrent applications. They collaborate with teams to solve technical challenges and optimize system performance.

What are some common challenges Go programmers face when working on large-scale backend systems?

Go Programmers working on large-scale backend systems often encounter challenges such as managing concurrency efficiently, optimizing system performance, and ensuring code maintainability in growing codebases. Balancing simplicity and scalability, especially when handling microservices architectures or high-traffic environments, can require creative problem-solving and close collaboration with DevOps and front-end engineers. Additionally, integrating Go services with legacy systems or third-party APIs sometimes presents unique obstacles. By leveraging Go’s strengths and working closely with team members, these challenges can be successfully addressed and lead to robust, high-performance applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Go programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Go Programmer, you need strong programming skills in Go (Golang), a solid understanding of concurrent programming, and experience with software development frameworks and version control. Familiarity with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms like AWS or GCP is often expected, and holding certifications in cloud or backend development can be a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure that you can deliver reliable, scalable solutions and work efficiently within collaborative engineering environments.

Are Go programmers in high demand?

Go programmers are in high demand due to the language's efficiency, scalability, and use in cloud computing, microservices, and backend development. Companies seek skilled Go developers for performance-critical applications, and the demand is expected to grow as these technologies expand.

How much do Go programmers make?

Go programmers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled developers with expertise in concurrent programming and cloud infrastructure tend to command higher salaries.

Job description

We’re making security suck less for developers.

Security tools haven’t kept up with how software is built today. They interrupt teams, slow releases, and turn security into a bottleneck instead of a capability. We built Aikido to change that. Aikido builds developer-first security products that reduce real risk without getting in the way of shipping software. We focus on what actually matters and automate the rest.

We’re taking on legacy security tools that teams have been stuck with, and we’re winning. If you want to help us take market share and build products developers actually enjoy using, you’re in the right place.

Founded in 2022 by third-time founders, Aikido has $85M in the bank and a long runway ahead. We’re building toward self-securing software. Join an all-star team. Take real ownership. Push boundaries. Build things that matter.

We're looking for a Software Engineer focused on runtime security. You'll build new security capabilities for Kubernetes, Linux hosts and cloud environments, research emerging technologies and attack techniques, and ship end-to-end product features together with the product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build new runtime security capabilities across Kubernetes, Linux hosts and CI/CD environments.
  • Develop features that help customers detect, investigate and understand runtime threats.
  • Research emerging attack techniques and security technologies, and translate them into practical product capabilities.
  • Build reliable, Go services that power Aikido's runtime security capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with customers to understand real-world threats and continuously improve our product.
  • Contribute wherever needed across Aikido, from runtime security to Kubernetes, cloud integrations and developer tooling.
  • Strong Go skills.
  • Experience building and shipping production software.
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes and containerized applications.
  • Good understanding of Linux and/or other operating systems.
  • Experience with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Comfortable working across the stack to deliver features end-to-end.
  • Curious and eager to learn new technologies, especially in the cloud security space.
  • Comfortable working directly with customers to investigate issues and understand their needs.
  • Strong communication skills and fluent English.
Nice to have:
  • Experience with runtime security or observability tools such as Falco, Inspektor Gadget, Tetragon, etc.
  • Familiarity with eBPF.
  • Experience building Kubernetes operators, controllers or other cloud-native software.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions.
What you can expect
  • High-impact position in a fast-growing company
  • Competitive salary package
  • A company that sticks to its values in an open and informal atmosphere (see our culture page on the website for more details)
  • A diverse and inclusive organization that is proud to be an equal opportunity employer
  • Flexibility in working hours

You will be recruited based on competencies. Qualities of people are decisive, regardless of gender, religion, ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation or any disability.
