Job description

Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Reports To: Operational Service Manager


Job Purpose


The Field Service Engineer position installs, diagnoses, repairs, and calibrates the refrigeration and electrical systems on our environmental test chambers. The position travels to troubleshoot equipment at customer sites. Travel can be up to 50% overnight Stays of annually scheduled work time. The position also serves as a customer service support person that provides customer-based solutions and is a sales liaison working with the sales division of the company for both service and chamber needs.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, repairs and calibrates complex cascade refrigeration and electrical systems on our environmental test chambers
  • Installation and maintenance of environmental test chambers
  • Usage of hand and power tools, refrigeration gauges and evacuators
  • Completes all required development training requirements including but not limited to Career Path Training with goal to achieve highest level of expected skills for position
  • Supports the Key and Strategic Accounts to achieve budgeted/planned performance, grow sales, grow territory, brand awareness and increase market share
  • Supports service sales goals of company and becomes liaison for large and small business opportunities by supporting customer needs
  • Participates in various teams and initiatives within the company
  • Provides the company input on customer contractual requirements
  • Provides the company input on product development requirements
  • Supports the company’s protection of intellectual property
  • Demonstrated ability of professional and public communication skills as it relates to building relationships with customers
  • Multi-dimensional problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use and perform in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Management of multiple customer locations and ability to work with mid to upper-level customer management

Qualifications

  • Possession of High School Diploma or GED required
  • HVAC program certification, associate’s degree and or equivalent work experience in specified field required
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Ability to possess major credit card to cover travel expenses to be reimbursed
  • CFC Type II or Universal EPA certification required
  • Self-starter-ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical operations preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints (mechanical and electrical) and identify components
  • Ability and willingness to travel (local, national and international as required)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to represent company well
  • Basic computer skills
  • Fundamental understanding in air, water, refrigeration piping, compression system, electricity and electrical installation preferred
  • Understand refrigerant and capacity controls
  • Soldering and welding skills-desired
  • Knowledge of controls and PLCs-desired

Working Conditions

Mostly standing work. Frequently lifting up to 25 lbs, occasionally lifting up to 100 lbs. (Lifting more than 50 lbs overhead must be performed by using mechanical aids; if mechanical aids are not available, the lift will be performed by two employees in a team lift.) Detailed work with hands; fine work, simple grasping and pushing and pulling.

Position may involve bending, squatting, climbing, crawling, reaching, and twisting with occasional kneeling. Significant portions of travel time may involve extended sedentary periods. Subject to weather and adverse driving conditions when outside. As needed, will work at a desk and a computer screen for extended periods of time. Must be able to manually enter data to the computer system and understand the screen and images that appear.
