The Opportunity
The Folder Gluer Operator plays a critical role in the finishing operation by ensuring cartons are accurately glued, inspected, and prepared to meet customer quality and production standards. This role is responsible for setting up and operating folder-gluer equipment, verifying job specifications, performing quality checks, and maintaining documentation and equipment.
On a typical day, the Folder Gluer Operator reviews job tickets, performs make-ready and start-up procedures, validates scanner functionality, and continuously monitors product quality throughout production. The operator collaborates closely with gluer assistants and production leadership to maintain safety, productivity, and quality while supporting overall operational goals.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
  • Set up and operate folder-gluer equipment in accordance with job tickets, inspection status cards, and production schedules.
  • Perform start-up verification and ongoing quality inspections to ensure cartons meet specifications for alignment, glue application, and finish.
  • Monitor and test barcode scanning systems to confirm accurate rejection of nonconforming cartons.
  • Maintain accurate production records, labels, compliance documentation, and ISO forms for each job.
  • Train, direct, and support gluer assistants to ensure safe and efficient line operation.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, preventative maintenance, and line clearances to maintain equipment reliability.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping of the gluing area and adherence to all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting operational efficiency, quality consistency, and schedule adherence.

What You Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of folder-gluer operating experience.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Basic personal computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and work overtime as required, including during peak production periods.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
