Job Description
Procurement Manager Chemicals and Biologicals
The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for Chemicals and Biologicals categories. This role requires expertise combined with the ability to drive long term category strategy, proactive risk mitigation, responsible sourcing, and robust supplier relationship management and excellence. The role partners closely with BD global procurement, Integrated Supply Chain, and other teams to deliver sustainable value to the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy & Sourcing
• Develop and lead the implementation of sourcing strategies for Chemicals and Biologicals (and related categories), delivering long term, sustainable improvements across cost and cash, quality, service, risk mitigation and responsible sourcing.
• Partner with Global Category Managers to ensure BU requirements are embedded into global category strategies and supplier roadmaps.
• Deliver measurable outcomes aligned with functional procurement objectives and BU priorities.
Commercial & Contract Management
• Lead complex price negotiations using market intelligence and cost drivers to achieve favorable commercial outcomes for the business.
• Negotiate and manage complex long term supply agreements, balancing commercial terms, service and quality performance, responsible sourcing requirements, risk mitigation, and YoY continuous improvement commitments.
• Proactively manage inflation, price volatility, and market dynamics to protect and improve business financial performance.
Supplier Relationship Management & Excellence
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers, with particular focus on Chemicals and Biologicals suppliers.
• Drive supplier excellence and accountability through performance monitoring, scorecards, risk escalation, capacity assessments, and coordination of engineering changes.
• Assess long term supplier capability and capacity to support volume growth and new product introductions.
Risk Management & Supply Assurance
• Champion component and supply risk mitigation strategies, leveraging global procurement tools and intelligence to identify and address high risk materials and suppliers.
• Ensure continuity of supply by proactively monitoring supplier health and addressing ongoing or potential supply disruptions, in collaboration with Procurement and ISC stakeholders.
• Support short term material shortage resolution while maintaining production continuity and service levels.
Operational & Cross Functional Collaboration
• Foster a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) mindset, driving improvements beyond unit price, including inventory reduction, waste reduction, manufacturing efficiencies, and end-to-end process optimization.
• Collaborate closely with Planning, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Engineering teams to align sourcing strategies with operational needs.
• Lead cross functional initiatives to drive improvements in cost, service, and quality. Governance & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all procurement systems, processes, tools, and responsible sourcing requirements.
Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, or Category Management.
  • Proven experience leading category strategies or sourcing initiatives with measurable impact on cost, service, quality, or supply continuity.
  • Demonstrated capability in commercial negotiations and supplier contract management.
  • Experience with proactive material and supplier risk mitigation, including supply assurance and scenario management.

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience managing Chemicals and or Biologicals categories, particularly in Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, or Consumer Goods industries.
  • Strong ability to work cross functionally with Planning, Quality, Engineering, R&D, and Operations.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
