Job description

The Senior Analyst, Global Freight is responsible for supporting the strategy, performance, and optimization of global transportation and freight operations across all modes, including ocean, air, parcel, less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload (TL), intermodal, and drayage. This role leverages data analytics, market intelligence, and cross-functional collaboration to identify cost savings opportunities, improve service performance, enhance carrier relationships, and support global supply chain initiatives.

The Senior Analyst serves as a key resource for freight procurement, network optimization, carrier performance management, and operational reporting, helping drive informed decision-making across domestic and international transportation operations.

This position is based in St. Louis, MO. This is an in-office position. It is not remote. Open to local candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze global freight spend, transportation performance, and carrier compliance across all transportation modes.
  • Develop and maintain freight dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and executive reporting packages.
  • Monitor carrier performance against service, cost, transit time, and compliance metrics.
  • Support freight procurement activities, including RFPs, bid analysis, rate benchmarking, and contract reviews.
  • Analyze market conditions, capacity trends, ocean carrier developments, air cargo dynamics, fuel surcharges, and regulatory impacts.
  • Identify and quantify transportation cost-saving opportunities through mode optimization, carrier selection, routing improvements, and process enhancements.
  • Support international freight operations, including ocean imports, exports, drayage, customs-related activities, and port performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with distribution centers, sourcing, procurement, finance, and operations teams to resolve transportation challenges and improve supply chain efficiency.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on service failures, detention and demurrage expenses, delivery exceptions, and freight invoice discrepancies.
  • Assist with transportation network studies, inventory deployment analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and Audit freight invoices.
  • Prepare presentations and recommendations for leadership regarding freight trends, market risks, and strategic opportunities.
  • Support transportation management system (TMS), ERP, and reporting tool enhancements.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in transportation, logistics, freight management, or supply chain analytics.
  • Strong understanding of domestic and international freight operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, Power Query, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other business intelligence tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of freight rating, carrier contracts, fuel surcharge programs, and transportation procurement processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience managing or analyzing ocean, air, drayage, LTL, TL, and parcel transportation networks.
  • Understanding of global trade regulations, customs processes, and import/export operations.
  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and freight audit/payment platforms.
  • APICS, CSCMP, Lean Six Sigma, or related industry certifications.
