Role Purpose

The Scientist - Glass Process is responsible for identifying and developing new and/or improved processes to create new products or improve existing products' attributes or develop processes that reduce glass manufacturing cost. You are expected to demonstrate technical leadership, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across research, development and manufacturing groups. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments, delivering impactful results, and transferring processes to business. Also, you are expected to take leadership in developing new analytical techniques as necessary.  This will include working with people of expertise to gain fundamental understanding of underlying phenomena or mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning, designing and executing experiments; analyzing results, delivering conclusions and planning next steps
  • Developing new analytical tools or utilizing existing tools to support learning process fundamentals and to deliver optimized/robust processes
  • Collaborating with process and modeling experts in other organizations to accomplish objectives
  • Participating on cross functional teams
  • Communicating and documenting results
  • Providing updates to project teams, stakeholders
Required Education
  • PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, geology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge
  • Material processing and understanding of process impact on material properties
  • Experience in initiating research activities and successful execution of experiments
  • Working knowledge of physical phenomena (heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, etc.) and thermodynamics with a strong background in relating material properties to process conditions and product attributes
  • Innovative thinking, creative
  • Ability to take an idea from concept to reality
  • Understand value of using modeling as well as characterization and tools
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Interest in hands on experimentation
  • Ability to design and carry out experiments

  • Experience interfacing with equipment designers to build process equipment

This position supports immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $81,989.00 - $112,735.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
