Job description

Michael’s Glass Company is looking for a dependable, hardworking Glass & Glazing Helper / Installer Helper to join our team.

For nearly 50 years, Michael’s Glass Company has provided professional residential and commercial glass installation and repair services throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, is comfortable using basic technology, and wants to learn a valuable skilled trade.

Previous glass experience is not required. We will train the right person.

Responsibilities

You will work alongside experienced glass installers and glaziers on residential and commercial projects involving:

  • Shower doors and glass shower enclosures
  • Windows and doors
  • Storefront glass and commercial glazing
  • Mirrors
  • Glass railings
  • Office glass partitions
  • Glass tabletops
  • Insulated glass units
  • Glass replacement and repairs

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Assist with loading, transporting, carrying, and installing glass
  • Help remove existing glass, mirrors, windows, and related materials
  • Prepare job sites and materials for installation
  • Assist with measuring and installation
  • Use hand and power tools as directed
  • Apply and work with sealants and glazing materials
  • Load and unload company vehicles
  • Keep company vehicles, tools, and work areas organized
  • Clean glass and job sites after installation
  • Follow proper procedures for safely handling glass
  • Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites as needed
  • Use a smartphone to take clear before, during, and after photos of jobs
  • Upload job photos and information through our mobile job-management app
  • Use a smartphone to view job details, addresses, schedules, notes, and customer information
  • Complete basic job updates through the company's mobile app

Required Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Have a valid driver's license and be able to safely drive a company vehicle
  • Have a good driving record
  • Be comfortable driving throughout Philadelphia and surrounding areas
  • Be comfortable using a smartphone
  • Be able to take clear job-site photos using a phone
  • Be able and willing to learn and use our online/mobile job-management application
  • Be able to follow GPS directions and navigate to job sites
  • Be dependable and arrive to work on time
  • Be comfortable performing physical work throughout the day
  • Be able to safely lift and carry glass and other heavy materials with assistance
  • Be comfortable working on ladders and at heights when required
  • Be willing to work indoors and outdoors
  • Follow instructions and pay close attention to detail
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude when interacting with customers
  • Be willing to learn the glass and glazing trade

Construction, carpentry, window installation, shower door installation, glazing, or other skilled-trade experience is helpful but not required.

Technology Requirements

You don't need to be a technology expert, but you must be comfortable using a smartphone for everyday work.

Our field employees use mobile technology to:

  • Receive job assignments
  • View customer and job information
  • Navigate to job locations
  • Take and upload job-site photos
  • Review job notes and instructions
  • Update job status
  • Communicate with the office

Training will be provided on our specific job-management system.
