What is glass design?

Glass design is the art and science of creating functional or decorative objects, architectural features, or installations using glass as the primary material. This field involves techniques such as blowing, casting, fusing, etching, and cutting to shape and manipulate glass. Glass designers may work on products like windows, lighting, tableware, or artistic sculptures, combining creativity with technical expertise. They often collaborate with architects, engineers, or manufacturers to bring their concepts to life, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and practicality.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a glass designer in a commercial setting?

As a glass designer in a commercial setting, your daily tasks often involve collaborating with architects, engineers, and clients to develop custom glass solutions for projects such as office buildings, storefronts, or interior installations. You may spend time creating detailed sketches or digital renderings, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring designs meet safety and building code standards. Additionally, attending project meetings and coordinating with fabrication teams is common to ensure your designs are feasible and align with client expectations. This role requires balancing creativity with technical constraints and maintaining clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a glass designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Glass Designer, you need a strong background in art or design, familiarity with glassworking techniques, and often a degree in fine arts or industrial design. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and CAD, as well as experience with kiln forming, glass blowing, or stained glass tools, is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help a Glass Designer collaborate with clients and translate ideas into tangible works. These skills ensure the creation of innovative, functional, and visually appealing glass pieces that meet both artistic and practical standards.

Job description

Architectural Glass Sales
View13 | Fleetwood & Kolbe Dealer
Do you see a wall of glass and think "opportunity," not "window"?
View13 is looking for someone who's genuinely obsessed with architectural glass - the sightlines, the engineering, the way a Fleetwood pocket door or a Kolbe curtain wall can completely transform a space - to own new business development for our premium window and door lines in the luxury residential construction market.
This isn't a role for someone who waits for leads. It's for someone who gets excited walking a job site, geeks out talking thermal performance and glazing systems with an architect, and treats every design office and build site as a chance to put more glass in the world.
If you thrive on autonomy, love the chase of a new deal, and want your income tied directly to your own hustle - and if "architectural glass" makes you lean in rather than zone out - this is your seat.
What You'll Own
  • Build Your Territory - Develop relationships with architects, builders, designers, developers, and luxury homeowners across your market. You decide who to pursue and how.
  • Create Opportunity Where None Existed - Research upcoming residential projects, get in front of design teams early, and turn cold leads into qualified pipeline.
  • Be the Face of a Premium Brand - Host lunch-and-learns, attend trade shows and industry events, and become the go-to expert on high-end fenestration and architectural glass systems.
  • Drive the Deal - Prospect daily, qualify opportunities, coordinate with estimating on proposals, and manage your pipeline like it's your own business.
  • Forge Strategic Alliances - Build partnerships with complementary trades and suppliers that generate long-term, repeat business.

You're a Fit If You:
  • Have a genuine passion for architectural glass, design, and premium building products - this shows up naturally in how you talk about the work
  • Get energized by new relationships and closing gaps competitors haven't found yet
  • Are comfortable being measured on results - new relationships built, pipeline created, deals closed
  • Prefer figuring out how to win over being told exactly what to do
  • Have a track record of building something - a territory, a book of business, a network - largely on your own initiative
  • Want a role where ambition and effort translate directly into visible wins
  • Love to network - this role requires attending after-hours and weekend events

What Success Looks Like
Your performance will be tracked (and rewarded) based on tangible, ambitious metrics: new builder and architect relationships, job site and office visits, lunch-and-learns delivered, qualified opportunities generated, pipeline dollar value, and new accounts opened. No ambiguity - just clear targets and the freedom to hit them your way.
What We Offer
  • Representation of premium, in-demand brands (Fleetwood, Kolbe) in a growing luxury market
  • Autonomy to build and run your book of business
  • A company that rewards initiative and results, not just tenure
  • Support from an operations and estimating team so you can focus on selling and relationship-building
  • Base pay $60,000-$80,000 plus commission = $80,000-$180,000 expected total compensation

At View13, We Live a HIGHER Standard
  • Here to Serve - We put our customers, partners, and teammates first, creating an exceptional experience from the first conversation to the final installation.
  • Integrity - We do the right thing, communicate honestly, and build trust that lasts.
  • Growth Mindset - We are always learning, improving, and looking for better ways to serve the luxury building community.
  • Hard Work, Hard Play - We work with intensity, celebrate our wins, and enjoy building something meaningful together.
  • Elite Performance - Good isn't good enough. We set ambitious goals, measure results, and hold ourselves to a higher standard.
  • Respect - We value every relationship, treat people professionally, and recognize that our reputation is built one interaction at a time.

Ready to build your own success story? Apply now and tell us: what's the most beautiful (or most technically impressive) piece of architectural glass you've ever worked with, sold, or specified - and why did it stick with you?
