Role Summary

At Sherwood Design Engineers, we value collaboration that incorporates multiple perspectives, and believe that diverse ideas produce more robust and equitable solutions. We have an amazing opportunity for a driven and curious Project Engineer focused on site civil design to support our team. The successful candidate will have a passion for sustainable design, building and maintaining client relationships and directing quality management processes to ensure work remains on track, within scope and on budget. This role includes the delegation of tasks to engineering support staff. The candidate will leverage and promote team member’s strengths for successful project delivery. This candidate should be prepared to work on projects throughout the country and internationally.

Minimum Skills

  • Typically 6+ years of industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Civil and/or Environmental
  • Experience with Site Grading, Earthwork Calculations, Road Design, Drainage (Calculations & Reports), Utility Layout & Sizing, Technical Report Writing
  • Experience in assembling and collating plan set packages
  • Previous experience in putting together plan set packages and providing redlines for drafters
  • Works independently under general supervision
  • Exercise sound judgment on design decisions and in application of standard methods
  • Work with multiple site base files oriented in different coordinate frames and varying units

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with water and wastewater system design, onsite soil testing (site evaluations and percolation testing), preparing water and wastewater design calculations, and permitting procurement
  • Knowledge of Graphics programs (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Certifications or other sustainability-oriented accreditation preferred (LEED, PE, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GIS principles 


Expected Outcomes

  • Plans, designs, and oversees civil engineering projects, such as airports, bridges, buildings, channels, dams, harbors, irrigation systems, pipelines, power plants, railroads, roads, sewage systems, tunnels, and water supply
  • Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project 
  • Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data, applying knowledge and techniques of engineering, and advanced mathematics
  • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project 
  • Inspects construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards 
  • May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents

Compensation:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Sherwood Design Engineers, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $112,000 to $137,000. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
