Description

The GIS Analyst-911 Liaison plays a crucial role within the Sheriff's Office by ensuring accurate and timely emergency responses through effective management of the geospatial database for 911 addresses. This position leverages advanced GIS software to perform complex spatial analyses, geocoding, and mapping, thereby ensuring precise address location accuracy. Additionally, the analyst oversees the separate GIS database required for the Mark43 Computer-Aided Dispatch system used by the Sheriff's Office.
The role requires maintaining and updating critical datasets for road centerlines, jurisdictional boundaries, and emergency services zones, as well as promptly correcting address discrepancies and addressing changes resulting from new construction or road modifications. The position is also responsible for collaborating with local authorities to resolve discrepancies while maintaining clear and effective communication.
This position requires a strong focus on customer service and prompt problem resolution, thereby enhancing the Sheriff's Office's ability to support public safety operations in rapidly growing areas of Denton County. Delivering excellent customer service, resolving issues quickly, communicating effectively, and contributing positively to the Denton County Technology Services and Sheriff's Office teams are essential components of this role.
Examples of Duties
  • Researches and manages GIS datasets by creating, editing, and interpreting spatial data; imports, validates, and troubleshoots data from external sources to support county functions.
  • Prepares address, street, and boundary data for the Sheriff's Office Communications Division by continually updating and verifying addresses in the GIS system, ensuring that 9-1-1 Telecommunicators can quickly pinpoint callers' locations, leading to faster response times for emergency services.
  • Supports development of automated workflows using FME and ETL methodologies.
  • Provides GIS support to county departments, including, but not limited to, the Sheriff's Office, Emergency Management, and Fire Marshal.
  • Develops and updates procedures and documentation for the department and GIS team.
  • Keeps updated with new GIS technologies by attending seminars, workshops, and classes to stay informed on trends and developments that could benefit the county.
  • Assists in maintaining county facility maps using ESRI Indoors.
  • Supports programming, designing, and training for web mapping applications with ArcGIS for internal and external users.
  • Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.
  • Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Emergency Management or related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in Public Safety required.
  • One year of professional experience using ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online preferred.
  • Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
