Job description

Overview
NV5 is actively recruiting a GIS Technician. This position will offer an entry point into the geospatial industry along with the opportunity to enhance your skills for career advancement. The Geospatial Technician will work as part of a team using geospatial software to create and update highly attributed feature data within a geodatabase from imagery and ancillary sources to produce comprehensive datasets that can be used for mission planning and support. They will also work in a 3D environment creating and editing digital elevation models to client specifications. The ideal candidate must be analytical, self-motivated with exceptional communication skills and work well in a collaborative team environment as well as independently.
Work Environment:
  • Location: NV5 Office in St. Petersburg, FL
  • Pay will range from $20 - $23 per hour depending on experience

Responsibilities
  • Photointerpretation of geographic features from aerial and satellite imagery
  • Create and update highly attributed feature data
  • Review maps and other ancillary sources to enhance data value
  • Attribution and update of metadata
  • Edit terrain to within project specification standards when tasked
  • Coordination and collaboration with the project team members on the progress of production
  • Completion of all project forms, spreadsheets, and checklists
  • Attend training and/or meetings relating to job requirements
  • Performs quality assurance methods to ensure a high degree of data consistency, integrity, and accuracy and provide feedback in the form of constructive criticism to peers
  • Georeferencing of source data and/or scanned maps
  • Assists in problem solving/troubleshooting

Qualifications
Competencies & Skills:
  • Demonstrates problem solving ability across software platforms
  • Able to adapt to different situations and tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Aptitude for learning multiple geospatial software programs
  • Exceptional customer service orientation

Requirements:
  • Associate degree in a science or engineering program, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to see in stereo vision
  • Familiarity with digital geospatial software such as: ESRI ArcGIS, ESRI ArcPro, DAT/EM Summit Evolution, Socet Set, Socet GXP, MicroStation, QGIS, AutoCAD or equivalent
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google suite
  • U.S. citizenship required to comply with government contract
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (must be U.S. Citizen)
  • Must be able to interview in St. Petersburg, FL office on short notice
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening

Preferred (in addition to requirements):
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering program, or equivalent experience
  • Possess a Secret level DoD security clearance
  • Experience working with NGA/DoD/AGC products
  • Intermediate knowledge of mapping and cartograph
