Position Overview:
As a GIS Specialist at JSI, you will support rural fiber projects by creating, modifying, and maintaining GIS designs. You'll work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure accurate and timely completion of mapping tasks. This is an entry-level role ideal for someone with foundational GIS experience and a strong desire to develop a career in GIS within the telecommunications sector.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update GIS fiber network data using platforms like ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, incorporating field audits, as-builts, and construction drawings.
  • Digitize and edit vector data to meet project-specific standards and ensure spatial accuracy.
  • Create basic network maps and reports to support planning, permitting, and engineering phases.
  • Transform and tailor geospatial data from public sources and across formats for project needs.
  • Apply geoprocessing tools and perform QC/QA checks to ensure data integrity and topological correctness.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and GIS teams to meet deadlines and maintain JSI standards.

Required Qualifications
  • 1-3+ years of GIS experience with a certificate or degree in GIS, engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Self-driven, with strong problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.
