Job description

Job Summary/Company: Sparks Group has partnered with a local government organization to identify a GIS Map Project Assistant to support a high-impact infrastructure mapping initiative. This is a project-focused opportunity for a highly organized professional who enjoys coordinating projects, facilitating collaboration between technical and non-technical teams, and improving the end-user experience of GIS-based applications. In addition to supporting the GIS mapping initiative, this position may also assist with administrative projects and departmental support as business needs arise.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and support a GIS infrastructure mapping project focused on improving the usability and functionality of mapping tools for both internal staff and public users.
  • Serve as the primary project coordinator, helping move an existing project from planning through implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple departments to gather business requirements, identify user needs, and document feedback.
  • Facilitate meetings between business users, project stakeholders, and technical GIS and IT teams.
  • Translate operational needs into clear project requirements and actionable recommendations.
  • Support business process improvement initiatives by documenting workflows and identifying opportunities to enhance user experience.
  • Coordinate project schedules, meeting logistics, follow-up items, and project documentation.
  • Assist with user acceptance activities and support the rollout of new GIS mapping functionality.
  • Develop user guides, training materials, presentations, and documentation to support project implementation.
  • Coordinate training sessions and schedule meetings with internal stakeholders and end users.
  • Provide general administrative support including calendaring, presentation development, meeting coordination, and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain project timelines and assist with tracking deliverables using Microsoft Office and other project management tools.

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience coordinating projects from planning through implementation.
  • Experience supporting business process improvement or operational improvement initiatives.

  • Strong ability to gather business requirements and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or other project tracking tools is a plus.
  • Previous experience supporting government, infrastructure, transportation, engineering, utilities, or public works projects is preferred but not required.
  • PMP certification is not required.
