Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking Mid- to Senior GIS Specialists to perform and lead flood risk analysis, mapping, and related services on FEMA RiskMAP projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. regions.  The position will report to our office in Chantilly, VA, but is expected to be primarily remote work for the indefinite future with occasional travel for in-person meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform GIS database development, qualitative/quantitative analysis, and mapping as a member of a local and regional water resources team
  • Mentor junior GIS staff, oversee, allocate, and review project tasks
  • Compile, manipulate, and refine geographic data from a variety of sources including public domain, field collection, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps
  • Produce detailed, high-quality cartographic products (digital and hardcopy) and accompanying reports in accordance with technical guidelines and client needs
  • Perform regular quality control checks of spatial and non-spatial datasets to ensure data integrity
  • Manage project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization
  • Customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, engineering, and environmental applications
Skills / Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of GIS project experience
  • BA/BS in GIS, Geography or related field
  • Experience with FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program
  • Proficiency using ESRI ArcGIS software
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office
  • Experience in producing high-quality digital and hardcopy maps and project graphics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Resourceful and self-motivated

Preferred:

  • Management of FEMA projects and workflow
  • Experience with hazard mitigation
  • Experience with municipal floodplain and stormwater management
  • Customization of GIS software using Python
