Job description

Our client is seeking a Project Manager for our geospatial, solutions, and analytics team in our Fairfax, VA office. Typical responsibilities include serving as the technical lead for development of geospatial applications for utility clients and supporting project managers in planning, executing, and delivering GIS projects. This position is also expected to support proposal writing and participate in related business development initiatives.

This role blends project coordination, technical GIS work, and client-facing support, serving as a key operational lead across GIS project activities. This is an excellent career opportunity for an individual to join a team of dedicated professionals while working in a multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm. This position offers great potential for professional growth and the opportunity to work with and apply the latest geospatial technology.


This is a hybrid position that will require in-office presence in Fairfax, VA 2-3 days per week and travel to client sites and industry events about 25% of the time.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, geography or other relevant geospatial or data science related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with Esri technology including ArcGIS Pro, Experience Builder, and StoryMaps
  • Proficiency with ETL tools, such as FME or Microsoft Power Automate
  • Familiarity with CMMS and EAM platforms and GIS integrations
  • Ability to work independently using strong organizational skills and operate effectively in team settings using an agile software development approach
  • Experience with Esri Utility Network implementation is strongly desired
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Collaborative and team-oriented leadership style


Responsibilities

GIS Technical Work (50%)

  • Lead GIS technical activities across project teams, including data development, mapping, analysis, application configuration, and system integration tasks, particularly for utility and public works clients
  • Review GIS deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements
  • Support integration efforts involving enterprise GIS, CMMS/EAM systems, databases, and other enterprise platforms
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior GIS staff as needed

Task Management (25%)

  •  Support the Project Manager in day-to-day project execution, including task coordination, schedule tracking, and issue resolution
  • Communicate with client technical and nontechnical staff about geospatial development tasks and progress

Business Development (25%)

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal teams
  • Support proposal writing, serving as a technical capture manager on local and state proposal efforts 
  • Develop communication materials to include blogs, white papers, and presentations
