Title: Cadastral Mapping Technician
Location: Chattanooga, TN 37402
Job Summary
Performs technical cadastral mapping work to support the preparation of legal descriptions and maps for real property acquisitions, sales, and transfers. Creates, compiles, reviews, and revises legal descriptions and cadastral maps using specialized computer-aided mapping software (such as MicroStation, Arc/Info, and Terramodel) or manual drafting methods. Researches deeds, survey records, contracts, maps, and other documentation to resolve discrepancies and ensure the accuracy and completeness of property records. Performs mathematical computations using trigonometric and algebraic principles, verifies calculations completed by others, and recommends improvements to mapping procedures and workflows. Works independently under general supervision while assisting project leaders with scheduling and technical planning for mapping projects.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, compile, review, and revise cadastral maps and legal property descriptions.
Interpret deeds, plats, survey notes, contracts, and boundary records.
Research and resolve inconsistencies in property documentation.
Verify the accuracy and completeness of legal descriptions and mapping products.
Perform and check complex trigonometric and algebraic computations.
Utilize CAD and GIS software to produce accurate cadastral mapping products.
Recommend process improvements and assist with project planning and scheduling.
Ensure compliance with mapping standards and surveying principles.

Education & Qualifications
Associate degree in Surveying, GIS, Civil Technology, or a related field.
Coursework in advanced mathematics, including trigonometry and algebra.
Experience in cadastral mapping, cartography, photogrammetry, computer graphics, or a related discipline.
Hands-on production experience with MicroStation, Arc/Info, Terramodel, or comparable GIS/CAD mapping software.
