GIS Analyst (Mid-Level, Contractor)
Hybrid Role (Primarily Remote, Occasional In-Person Meetings in Kentucky)
Contract: Renewable One-Year Term
Compensation: $20 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Office of Information Technology is seeking a mid-level GIS Analyst (Contractor) with 4-6 years of experience to support the development and maintenance of GIS applications and data workflows. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working directly with customers, and contributing to innovative GIS solutions within a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings as needed, and offers a renewable one-year contract. Our team is known for strong retention and a supportive, team-oriented culture, with opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and leadership development.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Support the creation and maintenance of web maps and GIS applications using ESRI technologies, including custom applications as needed
  • Assist with ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS Server, and mobile GIS tools
  • Perform GIS analysis, data editing, troubleshooting, and quality control
  • Work with customers to understand needs and deliver appropriate GIS-based solutions
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements and support solution delivery
  • Provide user guidance, training, and technical support to customers and team members
  • Support established data standards, workflows, and assist with documentation and metadata
  • Assist with FME workflows, support existing automations, and contribute to data automation processes
  • Assist with scripting tasks (Python, Arcade, or similar languages) and basic modifications to automation scripts
  • Contribute to team-based problem solving, knowledge sharing, and solution development
  • Communicate clearly with team members, customers, and non-technical stakeholders
  • Manage multiple tasks, adjust priorities as needed, and thrive in a collaborative, remote-first environment
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3-5 years of experience in GIS analysis, support, or application development (4-6 years preferred)
  • Proficiency with ESRI tools (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro required)
  • Experience with ESRI web maps and basic app configuration (mobile and browser-based)
  • Experience with GIS data editing, management, and quality control
  • Exposure to ArcGIS Server environments (preferred)
  • Basic experience with FME or willingness to learn and support FME workflows
  • Ability to write and debug basic scripts in Python, Arcade, or similar languages
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to contribute to solutions and learn new technical skills
  • Effective communication skills with team members, customers, and non-technical collaborators
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and provide clear technical information to diverse audiences
  • Customer-focused, responsive, and helpful in supporting user needs and delivering practical solutions
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment; able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
