Position Description
GIS Intern - Lone Tree, CO
Do you want hands-on experience supporting real-world water projects that directly impact communities? AE2S is seeking a GIS Intern to support water infrastructure mapping projects across Colorado and the Upper Midwest using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI web tools.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to apply your GIS coursework in a consulting environment, gain experience with utility and water system data, and build a strong professional portfolio. The GIS Intern will work closely with the GIS Project Manager and Lead GIS Specialist.
Responsibilities
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to edit, manage, and analyze GIS data
  • Convert field-collected data into accurate, well-organized GIS layers
  • Support water, wastewater, and utility infrastructure mapping
  • Design clear, client-ready maps following established standards
  • Build web maps and applications using:
    • ArcGIS Online
    • Experience Builder
    • Survey123 for public and stakeholder data collection
  • Assist with data organization, quality control, and GIS file management
  • Summarize results and provide map outputs for reports and presentations
  • Collaborate with GIS staff, engineers, and project managers

Qualifications
Basic Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field, with completed coursework in Intro to GIS and Cartography
  • Demonstrates foundational GIS technical skills and a willingness to continue learning
  • Self-motivated, positive, and comfortable asking questions and accepting feedback
  • Able to solve basic problems with guidance and follow established standards
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in learning how GIS supports project scope, schedule, and budget
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Physical Qualifications
  • Ability to walk up to 3 miles on uneven terrain
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects
  • May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear
  • May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload
  • May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town
