Senior Associate, Middle Office Operations
Overview
Senior Associate role contributes to the daily trade operations support of portfolio strategies. Daily trade operations responsibilities include data delivery to custodian banks, communication with traders and brokers for settlement issues and monitoring unsettled trades. Knowledge of the daily valuation process is necessary to work with sub administrators on corporate actions and portfolio reconciliation items. Additional reoccurring duties involve creation, analysis and reporting of portfolio data to internal and external sources, maintaining short term investments and working with the Fund Operations team on large projects such as new account openings, shareholder reporting and annual audits. Taking the lead on projects, resolving data issues, and working with others across departments are common tasks for this position.
This position is based in our San Francisco, CA office with a hybrid model of 3 days/week in-office and 2 days/week remote.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
  • Performing daily trade operations functions including accurately transmitting trade data instructions to custodian banks and sub administrators, working in collaboration with brokers and custodian banks to resolve settlement issues, reviewing corporate actions for mutual fund and separately managed account portfolios, setting up new securities and monitoring trades through settlement.
  • Calculation, analysis, and review of funds and/or separate account performance, synthetic performance, and composite performance.
  • Preparing, analyzing, and reporting; holdings, attribution, risk statistics and portfolio characteristics data for internal consumption and external reporting.
  • Interfacing with service providers and sub administrators. Participating in reoccurring calls and system upgrades.
  • Maintaining short-term investments. Working with custodian and sub administrator on set up and safekeeping.
  • Working with a multi-department team to onboard new separate accounts and launch products. Attending meetings, preparing paperwork, providing necessary data, and ensuring functionality with external parties.
  • Contributing to internal and external audits as well as other ad hoc tasks and special projects.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar middle office role or a role in fund accounting or administration.
  • Knowledge of equity, international and fixed income assets, trade settlements, portfolio analytics, financial reporting and performance and attribution calculations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written and communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure when meeting daily deadlines.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible, reliable, and proactive.
  • Effective at working both as an individual and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with the latest computer technology, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with trade operations, trade order management systems, such as Charles River, portfolio analytics systems, such as FactSet or Bloomberg, and GIPS performance calculations and verifications.

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required in business, finance, or accounting field.
