The mission of Group Internal Audit Vice Presidency (GIAVP) is to protect and enhance the value of the World Bank by providing independent, objective, and insightful risk-based assurance and advice.

GIA provides an independent view on whether processes for managing and controlling risks to achieve the World Bank's goals, and overall governance of these processes, are adequately designed and functioning effectively. GIA's work is carried out in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Professional Practice Framework. GIA reports to the President and is under the oversight of the Audit Committee.

GIA staff are highly skilled, combining risk management, governance, and internal control experience, knowledge of the Bank Group, and experience from external organizations. As essential partners to our clients, GIA staff bring technical expertise and business acumen in critical processes, a passion for learning, and a commitment to the Bank Group's mission.

GIAVP is headed by the Vice President (VP) and Auditor General (AG), who is responsible for setting the mission and vision, building strong partnerships with Senior Management and the Audit Committee, and providing value-adding assurance and advisory services that meet the institution's needs. The Director, Strategy and Operations, is responsible for supporting the AG in the effective and efficient development and execution of GIA's work program. GIA functions through six distinct teams:

(1) Professional Practices and Innovation (PPI) - leads initiatives that drive GIA productivity and implement GIA's strategic plan such as work program development, digitalization & innovation, data analytics, etc.
 
(2) Development Operations (DO) - provides assurance and advice for the WBG's activities for delivering developmental results to clients including country engagements; fiduciary; integrity; and E&S; and public- and private-sector financing.

(3) Corporate Processes and Finance (CPF) - provides assurance and advice for the WBG's finance and corporate process activities including treasury, financial accounting and reporting, administrative and capital expenditures, budgeting, human resources, legal, and other corporate functions.

(4) Information Technology (IT) - provides assurance and advice for the WBG's IT systems and processes, as well as Data Governance and Data Management practices, including standalone IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, and information security, data privacy, and data management, etc.

(5) Country Assurance and Advisory Program and Ukraine Oversight (Regional Team) - provides assurance and advice by assessing governance, internal controls, and risk management of in-country processes.

(6) Office of the Vice President (OVP) - provides dedicated support to the VP/AG by acting as the strategic hub for GIA in areas of communications, branding, reporting, external partnerships, and implementation of strategic initiatives.

Teams 1-5 are led by Managers who report to the Director and are responsible for developing and delivering the GIA work program by leading their staff. Team 6 is led by a Manager reporting to the Office of the Vice President and Auditor General.

RECRUITMENT

This position applies to a Business Systems Officer -Assurance Engineer staff position within the Professional Practices and Innovation (PPI) team. 

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This Business Systems Officer will be a member of the internal audit team and will be expected to primarily (i) apply leading technology and management practices for assurance use cases, and (ii) engage with colleagues on key strategic initiatives within GIA. The Business Systems Officer will report to the GIA PPI Senior Project Officer while working across GIA to develop and execute its risk-based work program.

Key responsibilities include:

Stakeholder-Facing Engagement: Partner closely with internal audit teams and stakeholders in an embedded fashion, developing a deep understanding of audit objectives, processes, and pain points. Act as a bridge between assurance teams and technology by communicating effectively in both languages and ensuring solutions align with assurance requirements. 

Translate Audit Needs into Technical Solutions: Perform structured discovery and gap analysis with assurance and risk experts to translate complex governance, risk, and control needs into clear technical requirements. Define criteria and design solution approaches that directly address identified engagement challenges (e.g., automating testing procedures or risk analytics). 

Hands-On Engineering & Solution Delivery: Design, build, and deploy software and data solutions to modernize assurance processes, ranging from robust data pipelines and integrated data repositories to custom analytics tools and automation workflows. Develop full-stack applications and integrations that enhance engagement planning, fieldwork, reporting, and issue follow-up and risk sensing activities that support GIA's work program planning. 

Product Mindset & Scalability: Rapidly prototype new audit tech solutions to validate concepts, then refine and scale successful prototypes into enterprise-ready products. Embrace an agile, iterative development approach (e.g., frequent feedback and short cycles) to deliver value quickly while ensuring robust architecture, documentation, and maintainability for long-term use across multiple audit teams.

AI & Emerging Technology Integration: Identify and integrate advanced analytics, machine learning, or AI capabilities where they can enhance assurance impact and risk insights. Stay at the forefront of technology trends, prototyping, and the responsible deployment of innovative opportunities aligned with GIA's needs. 

Governance, Security & Risk Awareness: Ensure solutions adhere to World Bank Group's data governance, security, and compliance policies, including appropriate access controls and audit trails. Maintain strong awareness of data-related risks and incorporate quality controls to ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Work as a core member of an agile, cross-functional exploration and scaling team, coordinating with audit managers, data scientists, IT teams, and other stakeholders. Facilitate collaboration and knowledge activation, coordinate technical changes with business users, and support the adoption of new tools across the audit department.
