This opportunity entails being responsible for leading geospatial projects and delivering innovative solutions for complex and large-scale business problems. In this role, you will define geospatial strategy and vision, design and develop advanced solutions using cutting-edge technologies, and provide technical expertise and direction to project teams. You will be responsible for managing project tasks, defining scope and technical approaches, and ensuring successful delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure geospatial systems. This role bridges technical execution with strategic planning and plays a key part in advancing enterprise geospatial capabilities through leadership, innovation, and mentorship.

What You'll Do:

  • Leads the design and development of geospatial solutions for complex and large-scale business problems using advanced GIS technologies.
  • Defines geospatial strategy and vision in alignment with organizational goals and client needs.
  • Establishes technical approaches, project scope, and task plans to ensure successful solution delivery.
  • Provides technical leadership and direction across geospatial projects, ensuring quality, performance, security, and scalability.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate geospatial capabilities into enterprise platforms and data ecosystems.
  • Mentors and guides junior developers and analysts, fostering technical growth and best practices.
  • Drives innovation by leveraging emerging technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud-native GIS.
  • Contributes to strategic planning and decision-making for enterprise geospatial initiatives.
  • Ensures stakeholder satisfaction through effective communication, delivery management, and continuous improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Programming, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related field and 7 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Programming, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • In lieu of education, 11 years of relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven experience in enterprise GIS architecture and cloud deployment.
  • Advanced skills in spatial data science, AI/ML, and real-time analytics.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience with geospatial data governance and compliance.
  • Certifications in Esri, AWS, or Azure GIS technologies.
  • Certifications in project management (PMP, Agile) or management practices.

What We Prefer:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or Computer Programming

The approximate pay range for Illinois is $121,423.35 - $189,918.58. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
