Job description

Overview

We are seeking an Application Developer to join Esri's Geo Experience Center team, where you will contribute to building prototype applications that explore digital cartography, advanced map visualizations, and web-based GIS experiences. This role focuses on hands-on application development using JavaScript, TypeScript, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, and modern web application frameworks to test ideas, visualize complex spatial data, and support early-stage innovation.

You will work on thought leadership demonstrations and prototypes that push the boundaries of Esri's geospatial tools and technology, with an emphasis on applying web-based ArcGIS capabilities in new and creative ways. You would be working within a diverse team creating prototypical applications informed by real-world use cases and customer needs to creatively apply Esri's geospatial technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain prototype applications and proofs of concept using JavaScript, TypeScript, and ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of user experiences for web applications, digital cartographic visualizations, and interactive map-based workflows
  • Assist in prototyping and experimenting with novel web-based maps, scenes, and spatial data visualizations, helping explore how geospatial information can be effectively represented in browser-based contexts
  • Work with modern web application frameworks such as React, Angular, Svelte, or Vue to build targeted, stand-alone web applications and reusable UI components
  • Collaborate with core development and SDK teams during release development sprints, providing feedback on APIs, beta capabilities, tools, workflows, documentation, and developer experience
  • Explore and apply emerging web visualization capabilities, including WebGL and browser-based real-time visualization, to support advanced 2D, 3D, and multidimensional spatial experiences
  • Evolve coding and development skills by staying current with JavaScript, TypeScript, complementary programming languages, development practices, coding tools, and user interface design techniques

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience developing web applications using JavaScript; TypeScript experience preferred
  • Experience with modern web application frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, or similar technologies
  • Experience with code management systems and CI/CD
  • Foundational understanding of digital cartography, data visualization, or geospatial application development
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25-50%
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this posting. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, ArcGIS Experience Builder, or other Esri web technologies
  • Interest in geospatial technology and applying innovative approaches to solve complex visualization and application development challenges
