Job description

Reservoir Engineer

Position Summary

This position is responsible for conducting Reservoir Engineering studies to support world-class exploration, development and operations of geothermal resources globally. An individual in this role will work in a world-class collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment and will be considered as a high-level contributor and specialist.

The level of compensation will depend on experience, with role spanning Reservoir Engineer to Senior Reservoir Engineer.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures a safe work place and takes responsibility for safety with the goal of zero incidents
  • Utilizes technical authority for discipline within company processes as-required requiring consistently high levels of accuracy and relevance of work of both self as well as others within the team
  • Performs a variety of tasks independently and/or within a team environment without need for supervision. Drives outcomes from self and team that both meaningfully and materially impact the company.
  • Acts in a dependable manner and uses sound judgement in all activities.
  • Prepares technical insights in a suitable communication method such as reports and presentations with accurate use of company tools, templates and standards, creating high-impacts to company
  • Manages data and information in a manner that is consistent with company systems and processes
  • Works independently on Projects and leads activities to achieve timely, measurable and relevant outcomes for the company
  • Conducts training internally or externally and acts as a coach or mentor to others
  • Successfully leads multi-disciplinary teams for work activities in addition to other periodic requirements such as due-diligence or joint ventures and can act as a primary contact person
  • Demonstrates leadership in creating new projects and company opportunities
  • Actively works to innovate and improve company tools, systems and processes and ensures clear understanding of external best-practices
  • Analyze performance of production and injection wells, diagnose problems, plan remedial action, and assist with permitting and execution of the work
  • Evaluate performance of production and injection wells and identify problems and opportunities for improvements
  • Evaluate effects of corrective actions or changes in field operations, power generation revenue and long-term resource performance
  • Collect reservoir data, analyze well logs and well tests, and develop reservoir conceptual models
  • Assist with the design of reservoir models and use them to optimize production and injection
  • Work with operations personnel, Geologists and Project Managers to formulate and justify recommendations for wellfield activities and reservoir management
  • Responsible for planning and specifying well tests, logs and diagnostic procedures
  • Responsible for the design, engineering field supervision, and analysis of well tests with safety as a primary consideration
  • Responsible for the design and specifying pumps for pumped production wells
  • Work with Ormat specialists and pump manufacturers to evaluate and improve pump performance and operating life
  • Responsible for the planning, engineering, supervision, analysis and reporting of routine well logs and pressure tests
  • Document analyses, interpretations of logs, well tests, diagnostic procedures and results of work overs, drilling and other changes in operations
  • Work with plant, field operations and IT personnel to maintain the quality and completeness of data base and operating records
  • Provide pertinent data and analyses to consultants and incorporate their results

Other Responsibilities

  • Actively handles work or assignments as-required that are outside ones normal work routine
  • Represents company at industry or stakeholder forums professionally as-required
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Must possess Master of Science or Engineering in a relevant subject. A Doctorate degree in a relevant subject is advantageous.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in the industry or related fields, generally with 2-10 years of experience, with experience across the full value chain of geothermal (exploration, development and operations)
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of key components of all associated and relevant disciplines
  • Experience in Project Management is preferred. Experience under the PMI project management framework is preferred, ideally holding either CAPM or PMP qualification
  • Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet.
  • Proficiency in well testing, well test analysis, conceptual modeling and wellbore simulation is required.
  • Proficiency in Matlab and Python programming is preferred.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to safely and efficiently perform the job duties. Proficiency in other languages is advantageous, especially in Spanish and Bahasa (Indonesia).
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities so time is used efficiently and effectively
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure quality performance
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat's auto insurance carrier

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to work in an office environment and to work at a computer, and computer monitor, and use repetitive motion for long periods of time
  • The ability to work in a power plant and wellfield near hot pipes, drilling rigs and heavy equipment
  • The ability to navigate and work in remote field locations and work outdoors in difficult weather conditions
  • The ability to safely operate 4WD light vehicles on highways and off-road safely
  • The ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • The ability to periodically lift up to 25 lbs
  • The ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including internationally
