The Generator Service Technician is responsible for performing planned maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and emergency service on commercial and industrial generator systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and excellent customer service skills.

As part of our service team, technicians participate in an on-call rotation and must be available to respond to after-hours service needs during power outages and emergency situations. This role requires travel throughout the assigned service territory and a team-first mindset, with an "all hands on deck" approach during major weather events and widespread outages to ensure timely, reliable customer support.

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily work schedules with the Service Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher.
  • Perform scheduled planned maintenance and inspections on generator  systems and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair generator, engine, electrical, transfer switch, and control system issues.
  • Respond to service calls and provide emergency repairs as needed.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform diagnostics using appropriate testing equipment and software.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Conduct system testing, including voltage and frequency checks, ATS testing, and load bank testing when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, work orders, and parts documentation.
  • Communicate repair status and customer concerns with office staff and management.
  • Maintain inventory, tools, and equipment assigned to company vehicles.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
  • Assist fellow technicians and support team operations as needed.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout the service area.
  • Stay current with manufacturer service bulletins, product updates, and training opportunities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide exceptional customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and service software applications.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a DOT physical & drug test
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Experience:

The following qualifications are preferred but not required:

  • Experience with generators, diesel  engines, automotive repair, HVAC, electrical systems, or related mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of power generation systems, transfer switches, pumps, light towers, or related equipment.

  • Familiarity with major generator manufacturers such as Generac, Cummins, Kohler, CAT, MTU, or similar brands.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, multimeters, software interfaces, and load banks.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 110, NFPA 70E, and OSHA regulations.

Preferred Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical school, trade school, or vocational training in electrical, diesel, automotive, HVAC, or related fields.
  • EGSA certification or generator-specific training.
  • Military experience, including power generation or electrical maintenance specialties.
  • Manufacturer certifications and accredited generator service courses.
