Position: General Surgeon (Contract)
Location: Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center Clarksburg, WV
Contract Type: Federal (ICSP Task Order)
Service Line: Specialty Care Surgery

Position Overview

  • Provide onsite General Surgery physician services to veteran patients
  • Deliver care in accordance with VA policies, clinical standards, and PWS requirements
  • Support the VA mission of delivering high-quality, timely care to the veteran population

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive surgical evaluations, procedures, and follow-up care
  • Deliver care in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings
  • Utilize VA systems including Electronic Health Records (EHR/VistA)
  • Document all patient encounters in accordance with VA standards and timeliness requirements
  • Participate in:
    • Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement (QA/QI) initiatives
    • Peer reviews and clinical evaluations (FPPE/OPPE)
  • Communicate effectively with:
    • VA clinical staff
    • Multidisciplinary care teams
    • Patients and families
  • Adhere to VA clinical, privacy (HIPAA), and safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with all VHA directives and medical staff bylaws

Clinical Scope: General surgery services for VA beneficiaries. Operative and non-operative care. Pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management. Participation in Operating Room (OR) procedures as privileged

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted MD/DO license in any U.S. state or territory
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery (ABS)
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Eligible for and able to obtain:
    • VA credentialing and privileging
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in surgical procedures
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Credentialing & Compliance: Must complete VA credentialing and privileging process prior to start.
Maintain: Active licensure. Board status. Continuing Medical Education (CME). Comply with: VHA Directives (1100.20, 1100.21, etc.). Privacy Act & HIPAA requirements. Subject to background checks and security clearance requirements

Performance Expectations: Meet VA standards for: Clinical quality. Documentation accuracy. Timeliness of care. Participate in ongoing provider evaluations (OPPE/FPPE). Maintain patient satisfaction and safety standards. Follow VA scheduling, productivity, and reporting guidelines
