What is a general manager football team?

A General Manager (GM) in a football team is a high-level executive responsible for overseeing the team's operations, including player acquisitions, contract negotiations, and overall roster management. The GM works closely with coaches and scouts to build a competitive team, handles salary cap issues, and often represents the organization in league matters. Their decisions have a significant impact on the team's short- and long-term success. The GM also collaborates with ownership on strategic planning and sets the tone for the team's culture and direction.
