Job description

D372 Component Engineering designs and develops propulsion plant and non-propulsion components supporting new design fast attack programs within VIRGINIA Class and the next generation attack boat SSN(X).  These include diesel generators, pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, valves, hydraulic components, atmosphere control equipment, and other engineered components.


Component Engineers perform varied project management tasks including program planning, specification and procedure development, preparation of technical correspondence, technical manual review, coordination with other Electric Boat departments, review of vendor deliverables (drawings, design reports, procedures, technical correspondence, calculations and test reports), qualification and production test support, supplier oversight, and cost and schedule control.

Position requires regular interface with other engineering disciplines, management, naval personnel, prime contractor technical personnel, vendors, purchasing/supply-chain, quality control, trades and other Electric Boat support personnel.

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Marine Engineering
  • 5 years+ of post graduate engineering experience

Preferred:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Marine Engineering
  • Component development experience
  • Program and or project management experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, 
  • An effective writer/reviewer of technical correspondence,
  • Ablity to multi-task in a dynamic environment, and be capable of working in a team environment.
