Job description

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Genentech.

We have an opening for a talented postdoctoral fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Christine Moussion in the research department of Immunology Discovery at Genentech. The lab study Tissue Microenvironment and mechanisms of resistance to treatment in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases and Cancer by leveraging in vivo screens with a novel high content imaging platform named STAMP (Skin Tissue Array by Micro Poration, Ortiz-Munoz et al, Nature, 2023).

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative Postdoctoral fellow to perform discovery research focusing on the immunobiology of the tissue microenvironment with an emphasis on antigen presentation, immune cell trafficking, imaging and cell-cell communication. By combining innovative imaging technology with genetic and pharmacological tools the successful candidate will pursue basic discoveries and reverse translational research effort from human genetics to mouse models to improve the outcome of Immunotherapies.

You will be expected to make intellectual as well as technical contributions by leading cross-functional projects. You will read literature to independently design, execute and analyze experiments, as well as frequently communicate with other departments as part of a diverse and multidisciplinary community, working in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will present the work to various forums across the research organization, international conference and publish articles.

The Genentech scientific environment has access to generous and state of the art resources. You will be part of the Genentech post-doctoral training program that provides an outstanding environment and the opportunity to pursue fundamental basic science questions in an environment focused on drug discovery. Our successful post-doctoral fellows go on to pursue careers in both industry or in academia. The position offers a terrific opportunity to work with experts in the field, supported by a uniquely collaborative community of scientists dedicated to understanding and improving response to immunotherapy through innovative therapeutic design.

Who You Are:

  • A relevant PhD in Immunology, Cancer Immunology, Cell biology, Molecular biology, Genomics, or Vascular biology with a strong in vivo research background.

  • Experience with in vivo rodent models and immunology is mandatory

  • Expected to work closely with computational scientists for big data analysis (AI, image analysis, genetics and single cell/spatial transcriptomics). Candidates with demonstrable expertise in Imaging or Genetic screens will be given preference.

  • Expertise in a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as immunological principles and techniques including microscopy, isolation and culture of primary cells, Immune cell functional assays, flow cytometry and Immunohistochemistry.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills as well as a track record of working in highly collaborative environments is a must - a track record of completing challenging technical problems independently and creatively, exemplified by publication of research in high-quality scientific journals is required.

  • A creative problem-solving spirit, and the ability to integrate detailed analyses into a larger disease-oriented context will be expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Omics, imaging or computational expertise is a plus.
