What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GCA, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GCA (Ground Crew Assistant), you need a solid understanding of airport operations, safety protocols, and basic mechanical skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with ground support equipment, radio communication systems, and sometimes certifications like OSHA safety training are commonly required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure safe, efficient ground operations and help maintain smooth airport and airline workflows.

What is a GCA?

GCAs, or Ground Crew Assistants, are aviation professionals responsible for supporting ground operations at airports. Their duties typically include assisting with aircraft marshalling, baggage handling, refueling, catering logistics, and coordinating with flight crews to ensure safe and efficient aircraft turnaround. GCAs play a vital role in maintaining airport safety standards and ensuring that flights depart and arrive on schedule. They often work in shifts and need to be physically fit due to the demanding nature of the job.

How does a GCA typically interact with flight crews and other airport teams during a shift?

As a GCA, you will regularly coordinate with flight crews, ramp agents, and air traffic controllers to ensure safe and efficient ground operations. This involves relaying critical information about gate assignments, flight schedules, and any changes in airport procedures. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as you'll need to respond quickly to operational updates and help resolve any issues that arise. Collaborating closely with various airport teams keeps ground operations running smoothly and helps maintain on-time departures.

Job description

GATEWAY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Christian Teacher Opening — 2026–2027 School Year
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Gateway Christian Academy is seeking a committed Christian teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. We are a PK–5 Christian school in Fort Lauderdale with a close-knit, family-centered environment where students are known, loved, and challenged to grow academically and spiritually. We seek a teacher who views Christian education not simply as a job, but as a calling to disciple children, teach with excellence, and partner with families from a biblical worldview.

About Gateway Christian Academy

Gateway Christian Academy serves families who desire a Christ-centered education for their children. Our school community values:

  • A strong biblical foundation
  • Academic growth and classroom excellence
  • Loving, consistent discipline
  • Close relationships with students and families
  • A school culture where teachers are encouraged to pray, lead, and teach from a Christian worldview

Because we are a small school, our teachers can make a meaningful impact, build strong relationships, and be part of a supportive Christian school family.

Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time Christian teacher for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will love children, communicate well with parents, teach with structure and warmth, and desire to help students grow spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging instruction in assigned subject areas or grade levels
  • Maintain an orderly, caring, and Christ-centered classroom environment
  • Integrate biblical truth and Christian character development into daily instruction
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents
  • Assess student progress and maintain appropriate academic records
  • Work cooperatively with school leadership and fellow staff members
  • Support the mission, values, and spiritual life of Gateway Christian Academy
  • Participate in school events, meetings, and other assigned responsibilities

Qualifications & Experience

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with Christian faith and values
  • A heart for Christian education and the discipleship of children
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
  • Teaching experience in elementary education or a related school setting preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • A teachable spirit, flexibility, and the ability to work well in a small-school environment
  • Florida certification or eligibility preferred; strong mission-fit candidates with relevant classroom experience are encouraged to inquire

Compensation & Work Environment

• Starting Salary: Approximately $40,000 annually, depending on experience and fit
• Start Date: August 10, 2026
• School Setting: Small Christian PK–5 school
• Benefits Note: Gateway Christian Academy is a small school and is not currently able to offer school-provided health insurance. While we may not be able to compete with larger school systems in salary and benefits, Gateway offers something many teachers deeply value: a close Christian community, the opportunity to teach openly from a biblical worldview, meaningful relationships with students and families, and the chance to make a lasting impact in a smaller school setting.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

  • Current Resume
  • Brief cover letter or statement of interest
  • Short statement of your Christian testimony and philosophy of Christian education
  • Professional and personal references
