Job description

Position Summary
The Gas Systems Operator 2 oversees the day-to-day operations of the company gas systems through monitoring of the company SCADA system and contact with construction management, company technicians and contractors working on gas system. The Gas Systems Operator 2 serves as the conduit to assure all work being performed on the company gas system is coordinated in a manner which assures system reliability and effective communications.
Responsibilities
Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Aids those involved in scheduling and dispatch of service orders.
  • Aids those involved in dispatching tech to emergency leak calls and to ensure adequate response times.
  • Maintains a direct line of communication with System Operations Supervisor, Construction Manager, Service Manager in extreme winter events and emergency situations.
  • Monitors company SCADA system and dispatches company personnel to investigate abnormal operating conditions.
  • Advises Gas Systems Operator Supervisor and company leadership of abnormal operating conditions.
  • Maintains contact with company Communications department for conditions that would require communications with customers and/or public.
  • Maintains relationships with other departments/contractors who support the gas operations department.
  • Aids in the training and advancement of all other classification Operators.
  • Assists with outages and restoration efforts and assures procedure is adhered to as outlined in the CoServ Gas Emergency Plan.
  • Receives on-the-job training in tasks and functions associated with this position.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities that may be assigned.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.

Secondary Position Responsibilities
  • Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Adjust work schedule to meet company needs assuring all shifts are covered.
  • Maintains Operator Qualified status on applicable covered tasks as identified in the CoServ Gas Operator Qualification plan.
  • Follows all safety precautions, procedures, and rules.
  • Attends CPR and emergency first aid training.
  • Adjust work schedule to meet company needs assuring all shifts are covered.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and ensures all perishable items are properly stored out of site.
  • Attends CoServ University required training.
  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Education, Experience, and Certifications Required
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in natural gas distribution service and construction or possess institutional knowledge for this position.
  • Knowledge of Company service territory and piping.

Education, Experience, and Certifications Preferred
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Basic understanding of SCADA
  • Basic understanding of the Gas Service Territory.

Skills and Abilities Required
  • Must communicate well with customers regarding gas-related service problems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Company's service area and distribution system, system construction, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Company's tariff policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Occasionally directs the construction crews to location sites regarding emergency repair of damaged gas facilities.
  • Has basic skills in the operation and functions of computers including but not limited to Windows applications, Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications.

Skills and Abilities Preferred
  • Attends CPR and emergency first aid training when scheduled.

Physical Requirements
  • Performs call out duty when necessary.
  • Works 100% of the time in an office setting
  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to drive occasionally.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and bending.

Other Requirements
  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record)
  • Resides within a reasonable response time distance (30 Minutes) of a service area.
