HOW WILL YOU HELP DRIVE THE FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS?

Gas Control Operator I

You will monitor and control real-time gas system operations for distribution and transmission pipeline systems operated by Peoples Gas. You will help maintain safe pressures, support the delivery of nominated gas, respond to operating conditions, and provide troubleshooting support, including handling Gas Control Hotline needs.

Gas Control Operator II

You will build on your gas control experience by monitoring and controlling distribution and transmission pipeline systems, supporting operating strategies, assisting with gas supply and demand activities, and helping guide less experienced team members through more complex situations.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Requirements)

Gas Control Operator I

  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • 3 years of experience in natural Gas Control, delivery, supply, and/or energy industry.
  • Must have solid mathematical ability. Must have a working ability with Microsoft Office. Must have the ability to identify and resolve routine and minimally complex problems logically and in a timely manner. Must have good interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills to meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

Gas Control Operator II (In addition to above)

  • 1 year as a Gas System Operator I or 4 years of Gas Control experience.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Gas Control Operator I

  • Monitor and control real-time gas system operations.
  • Response to alarms by investigating and taking appropriate action, including remotely changing pressures and flow rates and dispatching technicians.
  • Collect and analyze operational data including hourly and daily volumes.
  • Generate routine reports and documentation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving minor issues.
  • Provide support during non-peak hours and as part of a larger team.
  • Manage the Gas Control Hotline 24/7by answering calls and acting upon requests.

Gas Control Operator II (In addition to above)

  • Implement operational strategies to optimize gas flow.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to less experienced team members on more complex problems and situations.  Assists the supervisor with training new team members.
  • Taking an active role in gas supply and demand.
  • Contribute to the development of operational procedures.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE? (Preferred Requirements)

Both levels

  • Experience working rotating 24-hour shift schedule.
  • Good understanding of SCADA components and control equipment and the ability to read and understand schematics. A working knowledge of D.O.T. requirements relating to natural gas pipelines. Proficient MS Excel skills preferred.

WHERE AND HOW YOU WILL WORK

  • Will be required to work varied shifts depending on seasonal, operational or scheduling needs. This department is staffed 24/7. Some overtime is required. Storm duty may be required during and after storms.

  • Must be able to sit or stand for 12-hour shifts.

Incident Response Assignment

Our community relies on Peoples Gas to respond swiftly and effectively to all types of incidents, including but not limited to major storm events (e.g., extreme cold, tropical storms, hurricanes), gas leaks, equipment failures, environmental hazards, and other emergencies that may impact public safety or service continuity.

Peoples Gas depends on each team member to fulfill their primary and/or alternate roles and responsibilities during such incidents. As a Team Member of Peoples Gas, you will be assigned an Incident Response Assignment, receive training related to your role, and may participate in mock drills or exercises simulating various emergency scenarios.
