Job Summary

The Skilled Laborer (Water Construction/ Pipe Laying) will demonstrate training, experience, and technical proficiency in the installation, alignment, connection, and testing of water-related piping systems. This role requires the ability to perform tasks accurately, safely, and in compliance with engineering plans, industry standards, and applicable codes.


Responsibilities
  • Installing water, sewer, stormwater, or utility pipelines using approved methods and materials
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and grade stakes
  • Preparing trenches, bedding, and backfill to proper depth, slope, and compaction requirements
  • Cutting, fitting, joining, and sealing pipe materials (e.g., ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, concrete)
  • Operating common hand and power tools used in pipe installation
  • Assisting with pressure testing, leakage testing, and inspections
  • Working safely around heavy equipment and in excavations
  • Following OSHA safety standards and applicable local, state, or federal regulations

Qualifications

Minimum

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • 1 year of water groundman experience.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred

  • 2 or more years of water groundman experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environmentย 

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.ย ย 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.ย
