Job Summary 

The Gas Pipe Fuser is an integral position in the process of construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution infrastructure. This position performs various fusing tasks associated with new construction, repair and maintenance of existing gas utility lines and related systems/equipment such as fusing pipe casings, vault lids and pipe fittings, fusing metal parts together, hot gas mains, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, fabricating special parts and apparatus, etc. 


Responsibilities
  • Support crew with handling and fusing gas pipe. 
  • Fuse pipe that is ditched or drilled in the ground. 
  • Ensure every fuse meets quality standards. 
  • Keep tools in complete working order. 
  • Locate utilities by hand with a shovel and probe. 
  • Manage inventory on the truck. 
  • Teach other employees how to fuse pipe to the correct specs. 
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum 

  • High school diploma, or equivalent. 
  • 1 year of gas pipeline experience. 

Preferred 

  • Class A CDL. 
  • 2 or more years of gas pipeline experience. 
  • Operator Qualifications (OQs)

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
