Job description

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Lighting Intern to join our team in the Albuquerque, NM area.The Lighting Intern will perform or assist in typical responsibilities assigned to Lighting Application Specialists. The intern will work closely with an assigned mentor and report directly to the Lighting Manager assigned to them, and will become familiar with other duties associated with project development and implementation.

The essential functions of the position include:

The Lighting Intern will become most ESG Lighting responsibilities and will be assigned tasks to perform or assist in analyses and development of lighting projects. Lighting Intern will also participate in construction management, where opportunities arise. The following breakdown of duties is intended to be an approximation of time spent over a typical work week:

  • 50% Lighting Audit Support assist senior engineers with on-site facility walkthroughs to inventory existing lighting systems and document field conditions. This hands-on role provides exposure to investment-grade auditing by capturing the raw datasuch as fixture counts, wattages, and control typesneeded to model energy-saving LED retrofits.
  • 35% Lighting Construction Support provide on-site support during the construction phase to ensure lighting installations align with design specifications and safety standards. This role involves tracking material deliveries, performing post-installation inspections, and helping the project team resolve real-time field challenges.
  • 10% Special projects TBD, such as developing a revised audit analysis spreadsheet template or a calculator. The specific task will be determined after further discussion between the intern and mentor.
  • 5% Administrative tasks such as time sheets, team meetings, etc.

Your background includes:

  • Going into junior or senior level standing at an accredited institution studying some form of engineering, business, law, finance, math, or related field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • Good work ethic.
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • At least 10 consecutive weeks of uninterrupted availability to work 40 hours a week.
  • Substantial interest in one of ESG's fields - sustainability, lighting systems, utility expense reduction, renewables (solar, landfill gas, etc.)
